I've been playing musical cars over the past few months...you may remember I was driving a 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis:

Well, the transmission was going out, and then I found a hole in the frame, so for a $500 car, it wasn't with fixing. Conveniently, this happened around a month before the local county fair. I made a deal with a friend, and it died a noble death in the demolition derby:

I've got pics of it in action, but they're on my computer, I'll upload them whenever I get real internet.

Anyway, right before my I stopped driving my Grand Marquis, I swapped a new engine into an old v8 s10 I've had since I got my license, it was my first car. I had blown the 305 in it, swapped in a 2 bolt 350, and have been driving that:

I love that truck, so very much, but I can't make a case for keeping it anymore, especially with winter approaching. So, to hold me over till spring, I bought this yesterday, a 1990 Subaru Legacy L Awd. 175k odd miles, and withen the last 2k miles, the heads have been rebuilt and its had new plugs, wires, battery, fuel pump, fuel filter, belts, and hoses. The interior is perfect. $900.

That's what I've been driving over the past 2 and a half months.

Come spring, I will either like this car enough to keep it or find a first-gen Toyota 4Runner, and hopefully start fixing my old Jaguar.

Also, good deal on the Subie?

Definitely a good deal... that's pretty much an indestructible car.

I had the IDENTICAL (other than having a 5 speed) car a few years ago which I and a group of friends thrashed bi-weekly at autocross, then we built a rollover ramp when body panels started coming off. Sadly the rollover ramp didn't work, but I caught some INCREDIBLE air a few times.

Then my boss and I had an impromptu lunch time demolition derby between my Subie and a '93 Tempo that was kicking around the shop. The Subie absolutely destroyed the Tempo, and didn't even really dent all that much.

I even drove it to the scrapyard!

Motherfucking Legacy is about as close to indestructible as a car can get this side of a Volvo 240.

i'll bet you wished you Legacy sounded like this:
