a transmissions' longevity should not come down to whether or not your put in ATF+3 or 4.

All the Chrysler transmissions with issues I have seen is due to people putting in Dextron instead of ATF+3/4.

Are you on freaking glue? Chrysler has never made a good automatic, and that's common and proven automotive knowledge. Our local Dodge dealer has a guy who ONLY does transmissions. And he's busy, every day.

I've had good luck with Chrysler transmission, so it must be a local problem

Remember, the auto in the Cherokee doesn't count as a Chrysler trans.

It works and works well.

The all new Dodge Why-cant-we-make-a-fucking-automatic-trans-that-last-more-than-60,000-miles Dart.

QFT

Dodge auto trannies are made of bubble gum wrappers, tin foil, and wishes.

90 Voyager -- Trans suddenly stuck in neutral 100 miles from home at about 76k. Rebuilt two more times, once at 88k and again at 102k. When the trans went at 130k, that was that.

95 Neon -- Trans began hard-shifting into reverse when cold at 65k. (you'd put it in reverse, but the car wouldn't go anywhere) Trans began hard-shifting into reverse no matter what temp at 89k. Trans hesitated into 1stand 2nd when cold at 70k. Trans hesitated 1st, 2nd, and 3rd when cold at 93k. Trans hesitated at 1st and 2nd no matter what temp at 110k. Gave up on car completely at 148k.

00 Dodge Ram -- Trans started slipping at ~70k. Adjusted bands. Problem fixed for a bit. Had to do full rebuild at 108k. Truck still runs to this day at 175k, but trans slips BADLY when cold.

Not that they did much better on the manuals. Apparently the 03-05 Neons had clutch issues out of the factory. Mine completely disintegrated at 32k for no reason whatsover. Dealershit told me "factory flaw, lol oops". Thankfully they fixed it and it never had issues again (or at least to 71k, when I had to sell it due to losing my job).

dsankt: In fact, the day I die yall are welcome to form an orderly queue and run a train on my eye sockets. I'll be dead and frankly, will not give a f*ck.
budda: That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Fuck me sideways this is insane.

My '93 Daytona 3.0's tranny decided to put itself into limp mode... at 105 mph. It buried the tach needle.

Oddly enough, the engine survived...

1995 Dodge 3/4 ton van. Trans acted like a champ. Till I was 400 miles from home in the middle of fucking nowhere and suddenly decided it was tired of being a trans. Had 76,000 miles on it.

My Durango's tranny failed while driving over a massive bridge. It left with with NOTHING. My '89 Caravan left me with reverse, and the Daytona left me with second only.

Oh and the 2000 Dodge 1 ton van I used to drive for the race team had total catastrophic failure like the Durango as well.

That's what this van did Bandi. No warning. Maintained very well. No towing. Just went from all dreams and gumdrops to nothing. No reverse. No drive. I honestly thought the linkage had come off or something. I could not fathom how it could go from good to pure failure in a nano second. No loss of fluid. No jerking. Just nothing. I would rather have a warning.

The sad thing is, if I had to buy a domestic, it'd still be a Dodge... I've had awful luck from GM (and I worked for them, and saw firsthand how terribly built 90% of them are), and, okay, so I've only had one Ford product out of the 120 cars I've owned, and it was just a '90 Tempo that I derbied... but I've worked on enough to know I never want to have one.

Except for a dark green '68 Mustang GT 390 fastback with a 4 speed, horse badge delete, Cragar Torq-Thrust rims painted black.

no. i don't see logic here.
TH125= bulletproof even when pisspounded
3T40E (TH125E)= bulletproof even when pisspounded
4T40E= motherfucking bulletproof even when pisspounded
4T60E= good for 200,000 with minimal service
4T65E= okay, they had some issues around 150k, but were easily rebuilt

700R4- junk stock. too many sensors too much slip for fuel economy, overbuilt and underwhelming. the worst ones were in the small displacement Camaros, S10's and S10 Blazer variants with the 2.8L's. they were literally shifting themselves to death.

4L60E= tough transmission, but with enough miles and no service, iffy track record
4L65E= hit or miss unfortunately.
4L80E= rugged transmission

and thats about the limit of my GM transmission knowledge.

after my experience, i would never own a dodge/chryler built after 1993

My dad still drives everything he owns with overdrive off. The 700r4's ruined him for life.

Did the smoke screen it put up increase? Weren't 3.0's notorious for that?

Skelly's blind MOPAR fanaticism even has me lost... I love my Chrysler products, but the auto transmissions and the engine accessories are shit. My Stratus had a constant tranny fluid leak and liked to get stuck in reverse or stay in 4th after slowing down to what should have been neutral. Made for some awfully slow takeoffs.

I went through 3 trans fluid pan seals (ended up gooping it on with RTV and then the trans leaked instead!) and also 2 water pumps and a power steering pump.

Don't get me wrong, the car was a champ with 185k miles on the clock, but it far outlived its average life expectancy.

Friends with autobox Neons, my wife's 05 Caravan, my dad's old 92 Dakota, my best friend's 96 Stratus v6... all have/had shit transmissions. Dad's Dakota would hold gears far too long and then THUNKSLAMBANG into the next gear... The wife's van just revs and revs but never really seems to get anywhere.

The only Chrysler autoboxes I've ever seen work and work well are the 08-up Ram 5 speeds. But those are built to handle the Hemi in a towing capacity. The design for the 300/Charger/Challenger 5sp is similar but not nearly as heavy duty and they tend to run hot and ultimately wear through seals and leak fluid.
