Ugggghhhhhhhhh old school redneck mechanics who don't understand foreign cars (or even the metric system for that matter) frustrate me so.

A friend of mine bought a Tercel. His wife blew it up in a day, so I sold him a parts car. Drove it to his house, 30 km and the thing ran perfectly, not engine light or anything. This is after sitting for almost 2 years in the weeds.

The class B mechanic who installed the engine called me. (B stands for backyard... he's licensed, but I think he wrote his test around the late 60s)

'This engine doesn't run right, it's fucked. It won't rev up.'
(This is because you did the timing belt wrong... re check that.)
Calls back - 'Ok, yeah you were right, it runs fine now'

Calls back again:
'It has a check engine light and used a quarter of a tank of fuel in 20 minutes'
(Likely because you don't know what you're doing unless the vehicle is a 1980 Ford, and also, I bet everything is hooked up wrong. You incompetent hick.)

Fucking morons.

Now have you dealt with the tweaker mechanics?

These are the guys who think a spark plug is a spark plug despite it being gapped to one inch. That sucking air sound? Oh it sounds cool but I don't understand why my cruise control isn't working or engine is running poor. But yet somehow I managed to replace the quarter panel perfectly. And my headlights don't work but I taped up these wire things because they were rattling at 60 MPH.

I work in a parts store and hate getting calls from ancient mechanics.

"Hey I need a ball joint"
"whats the vehicle sir?"
"oh, a chev."
"what is the make or model?"
"yknow! a goddamn chev!"

HOW ARE YOU STILL IN BUSINESS

I learned a lot from this breed of "mechanic" when I was younger. Once they started working on newer cars, I stopped hanging around them because they were doing very unsafe things and I wasn't going to associate myself with that kind of butchery anymore.

Now, I still use some of their ways on my own vehicles, but I never hack a balljoint to fit or retap a tie rod end to fit a bigger inner tie rod.

PM me if you want to get join our board and get fit!

THIS!!!!!!

I worked as a parts clerk at Canadian Tire when I was in high school.

Most "Chev" owners would give the "doesn't matter" when I asked for the year and engine size of their truck to look up a water pump.

Hope they enjoyed a water pump for a '76 Chevy Luv Sport.

Worst part is, now the fat fuck that has my former engine wants me to drive out and help him get it running right. Basically wipe old Randy's shit off of this job and fix it myself.

I told him I don't have time to fix other people's mistakes and asked why he accepted the car from a "mechanic" and paid his bill if the car didn't work.

I would of told him I would help him except for three times the price!

And that "Chev" thing makes me laugh big time. My Uncle Peter's last job before he died was working for United Auto Supply and there was some outfit in Amsterdam, NY
asking him for a smorgushboard of parts for a "1500 Truck". Now I think all of us know in here, that means either a Chevy or a Dodge. So he was confused after trying to find out more information and decided to ask his boss. "Oh, its those guys again....bah....they have a charge account, just get them half of each...serves them right!" My uncle did the order, made the delivery and they did not say a peep.

DAMMM YOU REDNECK TWEAKER PREVIOUS OWNER MECHANICS!

So I took my Jeep in for a front end alignment; I knew the track bar was questionable and knew that should be replaced anyways, but while they are doing the inspection at a Les Schawb tire center, the tech comes out and goes "Sir, did you do the balljoints last time yourself?" I said no, and he goes "Well, someone hacked these balljoints in!" I didn't believe him at first so he has the other tech send a photo to the computer and I'll be dammed...THE PREVIOUS OWNER AKA THE TWEAKER MECHANIC KNOWS REDNECK TRICKS. I explained that to him and he goes "Oh, we get those guys here all the time.
