Bullshit.
While pretty much no one makes anything decent today, I put a Kenwood KVT-915 in my 2002 Silverado 1500. It is the ONLY thing I could find in 2003 that actually had real parametric EQ's and fully adjustable crossover functions for each of the outputs. This unit was repackaged as the "25th Anniversary Edition" in 2005 or so. I've got the Sirius radio and the iPhone / iPod add on devices. I also have jacks in the center console that allow me to plug in my Samsung Galaxy S and watch videos on the screen. Youtube while rolling down the interstate? Sure! Why not. Likewise, it is a lot easier to monitor the GPS functions on the 7" screen, also.
Anyway, Kenwood still made at least something decent as recently as 2005... since then, I have no comment.
After replacing the door loudspeakers in my truck with Infinity Reference series components, adding the two JL Audio 12"s under the back seat and cranking up a pair of old school PPI competition series amps (one 404 for the highs and one 602 for the subs) and a big pack of capacitors to stabilize the power system, the truck sounds really good. I mean, it is surprisingly good! High quality sources sound very nice in it and you can really tell what is missing from even 192kbps MP3 files.
