Game Review: Forza Motorsport 4 (for Xbox360)

I picked up Forza 4 about a month ago and figured that I would complete the World Tour before I gave my assessment. Make no mistake, this game is much better than Forza 3. It's more involved, the cars 'feel' better, the environments are more vivid and not as 'gamey' as before.

It's the same formula as past Forza's... you start in little shitboxes and work your way up to the big boy cars. But, the selection of cars you can work with is awesome. Also, the DLC is so far pretty fun. I found myself picking a couple of cars as my favorites and beating the game with them. Mostly I used the Ford RS200, McLaren MP4-12C and Ford Escort RS1800. The tuning on this game is the real meat and potatoes. You can tune the car for how you drive which is great. I like my cars fast and loose and just at the limit. Other guys I have raced with run their cars rigid, stiff.

Oh I forgot to mention, the online play while buggy sometimes, will accomodate 16 players to a lobby! SIXTEEN! It's like mayhem. Where there is trouble with this is that when you get a full lobby and you're trying to load up a track, there are often times when you get booted back to the lobby or out of multiplayer altogether. I'm thinking that this might be because of the vinyls trying to load on each car. Either way, it definitely does put a crimp in the fun-o-meter.

Now, the tracks on this game are some of the same tried and true that have been floating around since the original Forza Motorsport on the Xbox. Gone is New York City, oddly enough. The tracks that are the most fun are the Nurburgring, Fujimi Kaido (full circuit), Laguna Seca and Sunset Peninsula Long. Now for the NASCAR weenies out there, you even have the option of running stock cars! Yep, the guys at Turn 10 even through in the Chevy Monte Carlo and Ford Fusion (yee haw).

What else? Customization of the cars isn't bad. I think that Turn 10's system is a little clunky, but then again, you're not playing this to be a 'pimp my ride' guy. You're building cars to whip ass with! Tuning wise, you can tune the car and then test drive, but you can also adjust your turn during the test drive.

Honestly, this game is much better than Forza 3 and well worth the money i paid for it. The DLC content is a must have, though, especially if you're going to do combat on line. Also, if you have friends with this game, you can form car clubs and do battle with other clubs. All in all, this really is everything a gearhead is looking for in a racing video game.

Anyways...

When you say "feel" better, do you mean that the physics engine actually makes the cars behave as they would in real life? That's the biggest gripe I had with Forza 3. I never did play it b/c the cars handled like shit no matter what I adjusted (literally tuned em like I would in real life using known setups I had gleaned from race engineers on specific cars).
It almost seemed like 3's physics engine was very much "retarded" in that the controller inputs I gave had to be processed, thought about, and THEN the car would react slowly (simply turning through a corner was hell, even at low speed).
Good thing I didn't pay for the damn game... Yay bundle packs.

exactly. 3 felt numb and more than slow.
Four has remedied that, at least in my experience.
