This bus was new to Hants and Dorset Motor Services in England in 1956. 56 years later, it sits abandoned by a tavern called "High on the Hill" in Mt. Carmel, Ohio.

Oh good, my slow clap processor made it into this thing.

This website is fascinating. What's the word for a bus equivalent of a foamer?

According to a British man arrested for being a "terrorist" a few years ago because he was a busnut taking photos of coaches much like this one, they are known as "omnibologists". Yes, that's right... The study of the omnibus...

I just prefer the locally accepted term "busnut". And being from Cincinnati, and being a vintage bus mechanic, how did I NOT know of this vehicle rotting away?!

i was going to ask how one can get excited over a damn bus, but then I stopped and did some self-testing and realized, each their own, seasbiscuit. each to their own...

Some people are to omnibuses as you are to J-bodies.

ExploringOhio, this is out in Eastgate. If you look up a place called Eagle Towing, it's right down the road from there.

Apparently the English-themed hotel in Mariemont used to have a double-decker bus as well; I remember going in as a child. I have seen neither hide nor hair of it for a decade now, but next time I head over there, I'll be keeping an eye out for it. The webmaster of this site has only one report of a second DD in Cincy, dating back to 1973.

What I found interesting was that on the double decker buses, they use radiator blinds.

I used to ride one of these to school every day. For those not familiar, the open deck on the rear allows you to alight while the vehicle is moving.

Unlike a conventional school bus (Blue Bird style perhaps) where the rough kids sat down the back, the rough kids on a double-decker sit up front, up top...

The good thing about bus-otaku, is they are very thorough. Here is SRU 982 on its original run, Route: 70 - Lee-on-Solent:

Neko.

Thank you very much for that picture! Next time I go over that way, maybe I can do a photo in that style for a "then and now" sort of thing.

The more I look at it, the more intact it seems to be on the outside...but it's been there for maybe a decade and a half now, and like I said, is unfortunately probably only good for parts.

Cummins 5.9 retrofit. Bam. Then you can tow your race car around, too.

As cool as that DD may seem, in terms of tall buses I'm still more partial to the deck-and-a-half Scenicruisers. I know how to get parts for those...

I have seen a Detroit 6-71 retrofitted nicely into an old Leyland double, though. Was nice work.
