it was savaged by the critics. Personally, i didn't mind it. Would've like to have seen a little more character development, but there is only so much you can do in 120 minutes, i guess.
"Are you happy now with all the choices you've made?" "Are there times in life when you know you should've stayed?" "Will you compromise and then realize the price is too much to pay?" "Winners and losers... which one will you be today?" ***Social Distortion***
Posted by R3d michigan has a tax cut for movie makers, so theyve been filming here for a long time. michigan central station was in 2 of the transformer movies, the island, crossover, 4 brothers, an episode of detroit 187, and several music videos including eminem and kid rock.
the packard was used in one of the transformer movies.
theres more in detroit, i just cant think of them now.
both buildings are being worked on and sealed, so dont worry about it
Eloise I hear is being used for filming right now.
Also, not that it was anything that would have been on any radars, but CLP got used for some cheesy horror movie shortly before they demo'd most of it. Called "Closed for The Season" or something.
I don't know how much is going to be filmed on the old site (there's not much there but a field anymore, so I'm not worried about people finding the location), but this has been popping up on my Facebook a ton lately: http://www.morning...s-new-horror-movie
dsankt: In fact, the day I die yall are welcome to form an orderly queue and run a train on my eye sockets. I'll be dead and frankly, will not give a f*ck. budda: That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Fuck me sideways this is insane. ~~~~~~ Because it's Cincinnati
Posted by Esoterik Wasn't Blues Brothers filmed at Joliet? Or was that Tennessee?
It was, at the time it wad filmed there the prison was still very much active though. That's the one big reason I would like to go see Joliet.
Now that I think about it The Deer Hunter, used a lot of then active now abandoned and mostly gone steel mills and steel towns and backdrop for a lot of scenes as a stand in for Clariton, PA, most notably the now demolish Wheeling-Pittsburgh mill at Stubensville and Mingo Junction, both demolished in the last couple years.

Now it has a bunch of fancy bars and restaurants. I vaguely remember the boardwalk being super sketchy when I was a kid... My mom would take me to the Palace Arcade when I was like 3 years old and then we would head over to look at Madame Marie's on the boardwalk (my family has a springsteen obsession). There used to be lots of great abandoned buildings in Asbury... old hotels, movie theaters, but the town is on the up-and-op and lots of the buildings have been demolished or repurposed. Great for the town, not so great for exploring.
This place I went last year was used in the movie, The Gambler, that just came out. You can see it in the trailer (https://www.youtub...v=Y5gPQXbFs9Y#t=93). I never would've known if they hadn't left a script behind. 1.
Duquesne Steel Works in Pittsburgh, home of the Dorothy Six blast furnace. Used in the original Robocop film a few years before the place was demolished.

Holy shit, that place looks badass.
Oh good, my slow clap processor made it into this thing.
Not exactly used in a movie, but rumor has it Steven Speilberg used to frequent this theater as a kid, and possibly got his inspiration to be a filmmaker here.
I recently went to explore an abandoned grain mill/elevator, and when we got to the door there was a bunch of people inside with lights set up shooting a film. Before we got close enough to talk to them, a big security guard hopped out of his truck and told us we can't get an closer. They seemed like they were all college kids, but what they were shooting and why they needed a guard is beyond me.

Law Abiding Citizen, starring Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx was partially filmed in Philadelphia's Freihofers Bakery, in the Nicetown section of North Philly.
My photos (Pardon their shitty rawness):
