Not seeing inside the tunnel is such a cliffhanger! Did you go back yet?! How about now? Were there any more buildings back in there? One on your Google Earth shot looked like it had an intact roof - not abandoned?
The #1 rule about poking things with sticks is never use your finger. |

yea so... go back already and what's in the tunnel ??
cheers ! " Take only pictures, leave only footprints" |

Echoing the other posters, thanks for sharing your process! Bummer about the drive, but it was worth a shot! The fact that it survived being set on fire and stuck out the elements is pretty cool in itself. I've had this thread saved for a while now eagerly awaiting an update. I hope you get to revisit the location once things are safe.

Ok, Ok, I went back. I had to take a little more care getting to the location, a few construction vehicles at the entrance. 1.

Dark inside, flashlight illuminated a concrete room that was about 10 feet deep, and then 10x20 inside. There was about a foot of water that from the looks of the room did not belong there. 1.
I thought this looked cool. 1.

You can see condensation on the light. I was a little worried about live wires. I flipped the switch by the ladder and it made that BBbbbzzzzzttt sound when power runs through a bad connection. The breaker box had been stripped. 1. 1.
Not exactly an amazing outcome but your encouragement got me out to do some exploration so I appreciate it! Any time you get to open a mysterious hatch and descend into darkness is a win in my book. Always be extra careful when you cant see your footing. There could have been steps or a trip hazard, a rusty nail in your foot is no fun. B

Thanks for the update! I love the close ups of the rust. What is that vertical curved structure to the right of the ladder in pic #1? Looks like you found a leopard slug, too. They're carnivorous and will cannibalize other slugs given the chance. If you let it touch your finger, it'll try to eat you too (very slowly). It's a weird feeling. Kind of like a cat tongue.

An electrical conduit I think. You are right about the leopard slug. I did not post this one because it was kinda gross. These must be babies!
