Never been caught, but I did hide in some tall grass with a buddy of mine. We layed there for 45 min while 5-6 cops scoured the area looking for us. We were less than 5ft from them at one point.

we haw gotten a windshield note saying we have been reported to the police and the cars tags have been sent in but nothing came of it... at least not yet (it was a few days ago) but that has been the worst so far

This happened to us once

We were in rock falls and had several good explores and we came across a building full of holes. There was a machine shop next to it and we were standing on the sidewalk. We hadn't left the side walk when a guy came RUNNING out of the shop and started yelling he was gonna call the cops. We explained to him that there wasn't a law against being on a sidewalk, then we left.

2 weeks later
Cops call
They tell us that guy is an asshole and to avoid that neighborhood.

I've only just recently joined UER because a full member suggested I do so, I've been doing this type of exploration for the past couple of years in connection with photography (and sometimes not).

Never been caught per se, but the first time I went out with a UER member was the first time I had ever ended up in a situation where we thought we were caught...turned out it was just a neighbour walking his dog next to an abandoned mill. There have been other times when cars drove by very slowly, and I feared the worst, or a vehicle moves closer to my location but they are still unaware of my presence. Usually in such cases where something spooks me, I'll leave immediately.

I have been caught in the past by room mates, upon returning home, who think I could have been shot or "something" when exploring unnamed compounds/buildings.

I was also caught by some children who were wondering why I was taking pictures of an abandoned strip club, after explaining everything to them, they told my I was creepy.

Criminal trespass. They could easily have charged us with more. The 7 of us guys all took the plea bargains we were offered. 6 months court supervision and 20 hrs community service. The girl was separated from us and got bailed out; she she doesn't go to court for another three weeks.

I'm just wondering... how did the cops know who/where/what-number to call to reach you?

I've been stopped and / or caught by cops countless times, a couple officers here in Denton know me by name just from pulling me out of abandoned buildings. BUT, I've NEVER gotten a citation, and I've never had an unpleasant experience with Denton PD, they're friendly, down to earth guys. Don't be a dick and they won't be a dick. But that's just Denton. Every town is different.

I wanted to visit a building today, but it said this:

This building is now leased to the LPD SWAT, trespassing is a class III felony.

And this is a reason why I didn't visit this building.

In my years of going places I shouldn't technically be, I've only been caught the one time.

And it sucked pretty bad. The cops didn't care that we were just there to take photos. All they cared about is they were mad they had to do their jobs instead of watching football back at the station.

The whole time I kept thinking "surely they're going to let us go now". It became very clear they weren't letting us go about the time we were changing into jail clothes.

Spent about 12 hours in custody and had to go to court a month later. All charges dropped, but still...

Made my exploring buddies lose their nerve too. I can't convince them to go anywhere with me anymore. I'm sure it doesn't help that our court date was only about a week ago hahaha

Just yesterday, me and a friend decided we would head to a certain state hospital in Maryland with very heavy foot traffic and barely any security. the place is like disney world, there is always someone there. Anyway, we were moving on to one of the buildings in the back, looking for where it opened to the roof when i heard a car pull up.

I figured it was just the hired security truck that makes its rounds once and while and snuck up to a window to look out. I shit a brick when i saw a police car. I told my friend to get down and we sat in one of the back rooms for a while. It sounded like two officers at first and they went into the main building and looked around. 5 minutes later another cop arrived and drove around the campus. I would have snuck a picture, but was so scared as it was my first encounter with actual police. We sat there for 45 minutes listening to them talk. one of them let out a yelp of disgust, probably directed at the sexually disturbing graffiti littered around the place.

When we heard them finally drive off, we waited five minutes to be sure, got up, made our way out and jogged back to the car. we weren't caught and i figured as long as they didn't see us, there was no point in showing ourselves.

Hiding from the cops sure gets the blood pumping.

Hey you never answered my last post. I still REALLY WANT TO KNOW, when you say the cops called you.... how did they know where/who/what number to call?

All your story says is a guy came running out yelling at you. Then the cops CALLED you??? WTF? Where's the missing link in this story? I'm still dying to know.

1. A construction worker entered a fancy inn I was exploring with a group...he introduced himself, showed us around, and gave us ten minutes to shoot before his boss was coming and told us the best time to return. We pretended this wasn't our second time there and came back twice since the incident.

2. I have a letter from a school telling me never to enter their campus again or I'll be arrested. I was shooting exteriors of an old asylum building I was inside the year before [sealed now] when security asked what I was doing. Took my info, chatted all friendly, and had me leave. He told me I could probably find the interiors on the internet from explorers if I was interested...funny thing is I just need to check my hard drive.

3. The police were called while I was inside a building and I was surrounded by five or six officers, the first of which pointed a gun at me and had me lay flat. They searched me, questioned the shit out of me, and tried to gain access to see if I damaged it [but couldn't]. Amazingly I recognized the sergeant's last name on his badge and realized I used to be really close friends with both his nieces. I talked to him about them and how we relied on each other through some hard times...they let me go and told me never to do anything so fucking stupid again.

That and three alarms. So far I've been insanely lucky, not so much as a fine.
