Posted by Boston Biker Hi everyone, My name is Larry and I'm just a bit north of Boston, MA. While I'm not a "new" member, I haven't been on in a long time. Now that I've retired and started to explore I'm really hooked. I'll post a few photos of recent trips.1.

Wow, glad to see you come out of the wood work Larry. Congratulations on your retirement and new interest in UE. I think you have a good eye for finding interesting scenes. When practical and if it's not a deliberate part of the image's composition always try to square up the shots. Try varying your shooting height to fit the subject. I like your images especially the last one; it look better in my opinion though if you had squared it up. After a while squaring off shots will become second nature to you and not require much effort to do. May not always be perfect but the more you practice the more spot on it will be. Reshoot when in doubt and worry about sorting it out latter. Many times you don't start to fully appreciate a site until you shoot there a time or two and review what you captured.
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.
Hi, I'm Lil. I'm a goth and amateur photographer. I also Paint pottery. I have two jobs and go to school but when I'm not doing that I love exploring. I've wanted to do it from a very young age and I have now been at it for a almost a year.

Welcome to UER. Spent a lot of time reading old threads in the NE, Main and Tutorial forums... then post some interesting threads of your own. We like pictures... adding the history of a site makes it more interesting. Learn from the mistakes of other new members and try to avoid making the same mistakes. PA has lots of great industrial ruins all across it. The RR infrastructure there offers another opportunity in its self plus it is the gateway to countless sites along both active and abandoned rail lines.

Thank you! I've been doing a lot of reading for the past few days. There's a lot to absorb! I'm hoping to do some exploring real soon -- I didn't know PA was such a good place for it until I starting doing more extensive research.

Hello, i'm Anthony from Atlanta, Georgia. I have been visiting this sight for a few months now, but I never thought to introduce myself to the community. I hope I get the chance to meet new people with similar interests to me.

Hello everyone. I'm Adam from Tampa. I've only been exploring for just over a year now, and love every minute of it. Here are some of my favorite pics so far.. 6 by Adam Roberts, on Flickr 24 by Adam Roberts, on Flickr 12 by Adam Roberts, on Flickr

Hey all. I've had a longtime appreciation for urban exploration but I'm relatively new to the hobby myself. Bay Area born and raised but spent the past two years in a backwater city in Oregon. During that time I got into urbex and spent a fair amount of time at my local abandoned hospital complex (see below).
Nice to meet everyone! I'm really looking forward to finding new places to explore in my own hometown.

Hey everyone! I'm Kasper from Atlanta, and new on this site. Here are some shots I took recently, hope to contribute more later:

hi, im casey, 28 year old. currently residing in jacksonville FL for 5 or so months for work. im from australia and would love to be a part of this UE community. my 3 day 'ban' for being a newbie expired about 12 seconds ago. ive done some local stuff already but i hope to find some local jax UE'rs who are keen to do some exploration. i plan to, over the coming months to head down past orlando and towards miami to check out a few sites. ive been pretty lazy photography wise lately so ive only been using my phone but, presuming the internet hasn't scammed me like a sucker, i should have a camera on its way...probably. really hope to photograph some grimey places, along with some mostly untouched places only invaded by nature, and of course, churches. My experiences so far have been really positive. my worst is being in a pitch black funeral home with the world's most dismal torch and turning around to see a homeless guy without pants lumbering towards me with eager disapproval. He probably was just eager to talk pants, but since I'm built like a 6yo boy on a lettuce diet, I decided to bail. hit me up if you nearby and we'll do a thing 👊

Hey everyone, I'm Parker. I am from the Chicagoland area but I go to school near St. Louis. I have been on numerous urbex trips in Illinois, Southern WI, Eastern Michigan, Tennessee, and Missouri. I am looking to meet people in my area as well as find some new places to explore. I'm always open to new experiences!

Hey all! I'm pretty new here finally got the chance to start posting yesterday, but I wanted to introduce myself. I recently picked up UE after watching some videos and deciding it would be a good way to spice up the summer, and give me something cool to do before going to the Air Force in a few months. I'm really, really new, I did my first little explore today, I plan to try and upload some stuff on it if i can find the right forum to post it to. But, regardless, I am glad to be a member, and hope to make many friends and go on tons of adventures!
It can only get better from here!
Salutations all. My name is Ian, explorer based out of San Jose, CA. Have been involved for the last 4 years or so trying to explore everywhere I go. Here is to all you finding the next gem, or getting to lurk a spot that has been on your list, whether or not its been done before or not.

Hi, I'm in Louisville, KY. I know my way around many interesting sites in the area. I have a background in geography, cartography, and gis. My degree is in geology. I hope to begin exploring again soon.

Hey I'm Leo in NJ and I started exploring last year and so far I have explored tons of abandoned houses as well as 3 asylums, a jail, a powerplant, a mansion, a TB sanatorium, railroads tunnels, a railroad bridge and more. I'm hoping to get better at photographing these places because I have a real passion for it.

Hey guys,I'm a 20 year old from NY. Been doing what I'd call urbex "light" for the last year basically, take maybe 2-3 trips a year to find something cool when I catch word. I'm from the NYC/LI area, so if you're familiar with Long Island you can easily guess my (everyones) most frequented spot, its a real cozy place if you've got a few screws loose. I'm completely new to photography, trying to get into that now, gonna eventually get a low grade DSLR camera to get me started in the next few months. As of right now I'm really excited to be a part of this community, had no idea it existed until I decided I needed to look around for help and guidance. I'm interested in finding out if anyone in my region would be willing to meet up at an easy explore, I have a few friends who go with me, but they aren't as into the aspect of finding the unknown as I am, so hopefully I'll meet a few people here who can help me out or form a small, consistent explore crew. The two photos I'm attaching were taken with an iPhone so don't think I automatically suck based on them lol 1.

Also read the respirator PSA by maypost, instantly got a respirator and a backup to carry along with me whenever I go adventuring. If anyone here could offer me tips or more essentials I should have with me at all times when out adventuring, I'd really appreciate it. As of now I have the respirators, a universal medkit, two good flashlights, a roll of twine (? just in case idk), and I'm gonna be picking up a multi-tool soon too. Thanks in advance! oh also, anyone here experienced in the NYC subway system at all? That's what currently has me so interested its bordering on obsessive.

Hello! My name is deals and I am a newbie urban explorer as well as a new resident of New Haven, CT. My 'initiation' building was the Winchester Lofts and it was such a rush. Nothing too frightening was encountered but for a few rodents and a few rooms where the floor had completely fallen out. I marveled at those, but they were also adjacent to a room I had just walked through which left me wondering when that moment happens and if there are ever warning signs that the floor will crash right below your feet. Nice to be here and excited to learn!

Welcome to UER Structural collapses many times have no outward warnings just signs there may be trouble. Leaking roofs, water damage, and especially existing collapses are indicators you need to proceed with extreme caution if at all. Falls and structural collapse are the biggest hazard you face. Never underestimate this hazard. I've barely outrun collapsing floors and a grate. Many times you can't. -Trust nothing- and take your time. Read the numerous threads and tips on UER to help avoiding mistakes others including myself have learned the hard way. Here's one thread devoted to hellholes: http://www.uer.ca/...=1&threadid=122644

I really appreciate the response and the link to that thread blackhawk. It's good to know the warning signs as well to not take chances. I also liked what one member said, that if things begin to go, don't close your eyes and wish for the best, but rather always keep climbing for a way out.

Here are examples of the floors. I've since learned to also feel for spongy flooring or flooring that gives a little under the step... tell tale signs. I remember though walking on concrete and then seeing these rooms through a threshold, like the design and build of the place changed dramatically from one room to the next. 1. 1.
