Stage 3 Re-opening Weekend - Time For a Drink!
< on 7/20/2021 11:12 PM >

Ontario entered Stage 3 in their reopening plan on Friday, making this the first weekend that restaurants could allow for limited indoor dining. I went out looking for a bar with an open door, and found this one. Mask mandates, however, are definitely still fully in place in this moldy, decrepit mess.

[1.]
Grocery carts and a chair sitting just outside the open door gave me pause for concern, as that often means squatters.

[5.]
I went in and let my eyes adjust to the dark while taking these long exposure shots. At the same time, I took this chance to call out to potential squatters and let them know that I was only there to take a few photos and then leave. There was no response, and everything was dead quiet, so I figured I was good.

[6.]
I was standing in a tight corner of this room taking this photo. Just when the 15-second exposure timed out on this photo, I heard a bang and a shuffle. Incredulously, I looked up at a squatter walking nonchalantly through the photo frame. He gave me a casual glance but was quite obviously baked to heck. He didn't stop once, shuffling right through the room and out the door.

[7.]
I had to pass through a back room to get up to the bar in the front and assumed that this was where he was when I called out. There's a tarp strung above the couch to keep dripping water off his head and clothes hung up to dry. I had to chuckle at the Empire Homes sign. Condos starting at $300K?... in Hamilton!?? Nyaahah. That just shows how long this place has been shut down and abandoned.

[8.]
Finally, the bar area.

[9.]

[10.]

[11.]

[12.]
I can picture the look of dismay when it came time to give in to defeat attempting to pull that safe out of the back office. Where the heck did they think they were going to go with it?

I would have been a little scared going into this one. I still lose my shit when I encounter wildlife so a person would have really done me in.

Thanks for sharing GS

Since I was doing a whole day of inner-city exploring, with lots of prying neighbourly eyes, I wearing my yellow hardhat, bright orange vest and carrying a clipboard. I think that might have given me the edge.

When I left, I noticed a Wendy's next door and made a point of deciding that from now on, when I suspect there might be squatters, I'm seriously going to stop first and buy a couple of $1.89 junior bacon value pick burgers and walk in with them. I think that would be a winning ticket with any squatter. Or a Little Caesar's Hot'n Ready.

Running into a doped up squatter would of un-nerved me for sure...I would be wondering if another was lurking somewhere....

Fedge & I ran into scrappers many moons ago and one was hiding behind a tractor only popping up when he realized we spotted him....then he kept asking if we were going inside to which we weren't at this point because he was acting so sketchy....turns out another was inside and this one was REAL ROUGH looking in the sense he seemed whacked right out of his mind....Anyhow...he must of heard us talking to tractor hider man and eventually come out and came right up to me asking me for a hug? ...Um NO...back of Flea Bag....Freaked me out he did....we left promptly lol

Yeah....so ever since then I'm hyper alert and suspicious of others "lurking"

Nice set BTW

Ohhhhh the things I don't have to worry about being a guy. At least, things I THINK I don't have to worry about. See?... You must employ my tactic above! "No hug, sorry, but here's a warm burger."

I never realized that squatters have a distinct shuffling sound, when I was at the asylum in London doing a live stream someone commented how the shuffling in the dark sounded like snow pants. Long story short the "snow pants shuffle" is a thing.
