Abandoned Daycare (First Photo Post)
< on 9/18/2021 8:11 AM >

About a year ago I visited an abandoned daycare that was in the process of being demolished. The building had been sitting for a few years and got quite vandalized, but from my understanding it is currently being demolished to make way for a new apartment building. It used to be part of a complex of buildings including a hospital and some housing, all of which have been demolished.

I recently moved out of this town, but the next time I visit I will check the place out and update on its status.

It isn't being demolished, it was designated a historical building in November 2020. The company that owns it is planning to turn it into their headquarters.

Oh! I went there a little while after taking these photos and saw a development sign on the corner of the road and the building was fenced off. Do you have any other info on it?

The building is called the "Hamilton Sanitorium" and as you mentioned was a building that was used as part of the former Hamilton Health Sciences campus that used to also be on the escarpment. The whole health sciences campus, on the escarpment across the street from this building was demolished last year.

This was the nurses residence for the sanitorium across the street, which was demolished in 2014, not last year. The hospital down the road is probably the one you're thinking of. (This is just from my knowledge though, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.)

I went to daycare here as a child in the 90s! I passed by it a few years ago and was surprised/happy to see it still standing. I still pass by it on occasion to bring back the memories. I remember riding a trike on the playground out front, napping in the dark basement, playing on the computers on the top floor, carving soap, and being in the kitchen.
