The Sanatorium

This started as a fun one and then ended in disaster. Drove up to northern Ontario in the fall hoping to catch the fall colours with a friend. Unfortunately, we were too late. I had heard about this abandoned sanatorium a while back and we decided to check it out. We were really nervous about going on the property because we read about the locals calling the cops on people who are trespassing, and there have been arrests made by the police. While standing in the bushes trying to decide if we should bother or not these two teenagers roll up, stash their bikes in the bushes and go in. I look at my friend and say fuck it! The kids seemed pretty chill at first. We went our own ways but then we all ended up in the same building. I was busy taking pictures while they were roaming around. Then we start hearing loud crashing noises and we realize these kids are throwing stuff off of the roof. I start freaking out at them about destroying the site and tell them to immediately stop before we all potentially get arrested. I've never hightailed it out of a site so fast before. Was a real shame because this place deserved more time :/

Well you sure got some great shots before the riff raff ruined your fun. Then again... I will definitely admit to remembering quite well stashing my own bike and throwing crap off the roof of an abandoned factory near Marineland. Sighhhhhh.... youth is wasted on the young.

Think I know the place, I had also heard locals were quick to complain if they saw people going in. Scouted the area around and found an old unused side road that ran close, so parked out that way and thought I could cut through the woods to reach it. Ended up running into unexpected marsh and a blackbear and never made it. Glad you got the chance to see it, brief as it turned out to be!
