Community Centre Fire Ruins / Abandoned Social Housing Complex
< on 12/15/2021 3:07 AM >

Dove into this one blind with no previous knowledge of the location's history or size. Each hour spent roaming the grounds of the sprawling townhouse complex unveiled another layer of its extensive, convoluted, and ultimately tragic history. Nearly 800 residents have been forced to relocate from this community over the last 5 years due to a drawn out domino effect of vacant homes falling into disrepair and developing rodent infestations, leading to more vacant homes, more disrepair, more infestations, and ultimately to full scale relocation of its final remaining tenants last year. The final nail in the coffin arrived in the form of a fire, resulting in total loss for the community centre at the heart of the community.

The entire property is now slated for demolition and redevelopment.

Killer shots man!

I'm all about leaving shit be. I usually couldn't care less about the things I come across while I'm out and about...but goddamn man, those beans are a goldmine. That's like a year's worth of lunches for my vegan ass.

Bahahaha, a good friend of mine said exactly the same thing when he saw that photo.

I saw that mural in a documentary back when the complex still had residents. If I recall correctly it's to honour those lost to gun violence over the years.

Fantastic to see these photos somewhere 'else' other than the other site, especially when the resolution and size are so much better presented. I hope you do a part II to this. You must have 100 photos.

Thanks GS. I did leave with hundreds of photos that night but felt that only the Community Centre shots had substance. I didn't mention it here, may have on OAP, but the vast majority of the townhouse and apartment units in this complex are completely empty. They haven't begun tearing down the interior walls yet but all of the furniture is gone and shooting hundreds of completely empty rooms just isn't very inspiring.

That being said, there are still several locked, powered, untouched buildings here that I wasn't able to explore that night. I am planning on returning to Ontario early 2022 and will definitely be checking up on this spot again.

hmm i used to live not to far from there back in university days! it is a part of town that's in the news for all the wrong reasons. (coming back from keelesdale on jane bus from a late night sewerxploring, those were the days=)
Wouldn't mind coming out there to check it out, but probably safest to go with someone!

Don't think anybody is out and about there. An insta friend of mine has shot several videos there and not only is there no one around, there's no security. No sure if it's still up, but it looked like that almost a year ago. There's a few of them being boarded up and being demolished around town ATM.
