Hands-free, good quality. Not great in low lighting as far as I know. As for lighting... are you looking to go to one specific place to film multiple times? Or is this going to be used for exploring many different places? I'm assuming there will be no power to plug into either? What is the subject you are filming? A drain, buildings, people... A little extra info on the project might help out. IMO Gopro takes slightly better quality and the Contour looks cooler/ is more sleek. I have the contour and really like it, you can check out the video: http://www.uer.ca/...=1&threadid=102722 This video was taken using a light with about 30 lumens, and you can see areas that although I was able to see perfectly, the video was completely black. Both cameras have small lenses so they perform HORRIBLY in low light conditions. You really have two options for low light conditions, the first is to simply add more light to the equation. For best picture, mount the light to whatever the camera is mounted to (ideally your head) so you would likely want a headlamp with major lumen (300 minimum for basic quality). The second option is to take the basic helmet camera and upgrade the lens. An option I have looked into is an IR light/lens combo. The way I understand it is that the lens is slightly larger and accepts infrared light put out by a special IR light you use in place of/in conjunction with your visible light. The benefit to this would be the ability to record video in pure black visible light and records good video in light that you can see with your eyes but a normal lens wouldn't be able to detect. Some of his responses have made him look like a troll. He has refused to listen to members of this site who have been around the block a couple of times. I can't say for certain if he read any of the posts in the Newbie forum that were put there to help noobs like him.
