almost became a vampire tonight

tonight i went on my first solo night expedition. same place as always but it was darker and scarier. with the help of someone on here and some tinkering i found out how to take long exposure shots! these are my first so dont expect top quality. everything went off without a hitch tonight and i even went on the 2nd highest roof (14-15 stories up - no ledge!!!) which i punked out on last time. the ladder was broken at the top and when i saw that i figured that was it for me lol. after taking a bunch more pics i got my nerve up and went up.

also i used my maglite to literally hammer down 3 or 4 nails that were eventually going to get me or someone else. going back down the stairs i snuck past the pigeons, managing to only scare off one who managed to scare me lol. then i decide to go explore a few floors i passed up before. everything was still and silent and then 3 or 4 bats buzzed right by me scaring the shit out me lol. anyway heres a few of the pics that i figured were decent. hope you enjoy them as much as i did taking them.

some are duplicates, some are crap and will be discarded. if you look at some of the pictures you can tell im learning as i go. i didnt feel like re-sizing every pic and being a noob i dont know a better way

Think you'd be able to hotlink the pictures so we don't have to click through a bunch of slow-loading pages?

Here you are. Take a look at the code and see how I did it. You need to make sure you're using the right image URL from photobucket, and avoid HTML.

Decent, i think. my camera only allows for an 8 second exposure. i hate that limit.

Very good to start, night shooting can be a pain in the ass because if you're like me you retake, delete, and retake the same shot twenty times after moving the camera just millimeters. That sucks without high exposures.

Do you shoot in raw? Try changing your white balance so you get less of the yellow glow to it. It'll appear more authentic to what you saw.

lol wow, I was surprised to see Louisville skyline when I opened your pictures. I live just 20 or so miles west of you.

Good pics by the way! They don't always have to be pro quality to be nice.

thanks for the love! was expecting to get crapped on.
as for if i shoot in the raw...
im not sure/dont think so. after googling for 20 minuets i think my camera(panasonic lumix fp2) doesnt have a raw setting? would it be under white balance or sensitivity? i can only shoot long exposures in starry sky mode. i tried to adjust the white balance but it wont let me and its preset to AWB. also i think i may start shooting in 16:9 and was wondering if anyone else does this? i want to do this mainly because i am getting a gopro here soon and want to shoot some cool ue vids and i think the 16:9 will be better for my videos

I'm fairly certain the Lumix does shoot RAW, but you only need to worry about that if you're going to do some serious editing. No need to worry about it if you don't have or don't use editing software.

There will be a manual White Balance option, and it'll have either (A) a Kelvin temperature scale or (B.) a bunch of presets that will be named for the situations they're used for. In this case, the streetlights are appearing orange/yellow, meaning the image is too "hot", so you want to go with a white balance setting that will "cool" the image down so that the lights will appear natural.
If you camera has (A), try setting the degree to somewhere around 4000-6000 (a "cooler" temperature). If your camera has (B.), look for a preset that is named Tungsten/Halogen or something similar.

Or if you want to correct white balance after the fact, which these shots could have benefited from.

Nice shots! Props for exploring solo at night, that can get a bit creepy until you get used to it, but after that it can be pretty fun (plus when it comes to security you only have to worry about getting yourself out).

If the only thing the photos need is a white balance adjustment, then it'd be much more expedient to adjust the settings in-camera.

He's safe. there's no security at that location, and it's in the hood so no one gives a shit. Far as they're concerned, he just a squatter.

Pretty good pictures. I always have trouble making my long exposures come out clear but these are nice and crisp.

I bet the bats were just eating the mosquitos that were following you
