To me, the best explorations are the accidental ones. when you're driving down the road and that one feature of a place catches your eye........
and you just know that you've found something awesome.
not long ago on my way back from watching Nick Wallenda cross the falls I came across an absolute gem of a place, an abandoned waterpark. Having never even caught a wiff of the place before, it took a little time to figure out what i was seeing. Astroturf surrounded by grass? pool edging just barely sticking up out of the dirt? big sections of pipe? Pump room? Well then it was time to break out the search engine to learn about what went wrong...

I was just going to ask about that.

If you Google reviews of that place, it's fairly entertaining as well.

I was actually the security guard here for a while back in the late 90s. I was so bored I used to spend my shifts lifting the anti-slip mats in front of every snack bar in the entire place and scooping up all the change would fall through the holes all day long. Loser!!

I replaced a previous guard who was caught by our regional supervisor on one of the go-karts. He had taken it off the track and was actually found several kilometers down the North Service Road beside the QEW bootin' along. Did he get fired? No... he got transferred to the St. Catharines court-house for a Hindu bombing trial and was busted smoking pot on one of the back doorsteps during the trial.

Gotta love the hiring practices of Burns Security (now defunct).

I was wondering if this place was still standing. The DB says "Demolished", which looks mostly accurate. But it's nice to see that there's at least one interesting remnant.
