Billiards Basement

This last summer I worked for a new social networking website. The office space we occupied apparently hid an abandoned billiards club. The building even had flags that said 'billiards' all over the place on the outside. The basement was shared with the barber shop next door, but ultimately no one ever went down there. When we visited we could hear music blasting from next door, but the place was oddly empty except for an old safe and an empty trash can.

Yes, actually.
The damn thing didn't budge, and it was completely empty so it was sadly uninteresting, just like the entire trip.

That's pretty awesome. Those old store fronts in cities with mature downtowns have all sorts of weird things in the basements. I've found some really whacky rooms with awesome stone walls, oddly shaped rooms, trap doors, connections to other stores in downtown Hamilton. So many businesses don't even use these spaces and usually haven't for decades.

I have found basements like this, too. Like the Radio Shack/Blacks that I posted a few months ago.
I think that at one time these basements actually had a use. Boilers and so on, but with more modern heating systems, boiler rooms and so on, are not really needed any more.

They're oddly clean and empty for basements. They don't smell as bad either...
