| | | Brantford council adds another building to demolition tender < on 9/25/2012 6:01 PM >
| | | The demolition of the remains of 66 Mohawk St. will be rolled into the larger tender for the abatement and demolition of all but a few buildings at 347 Greenwich St. Council made the decision Monday night after hearing from its general manager of community services Greg Dworak and clerk Lori Wolfe that the initial contractor chosen for the Mohawk Street work didn't work out. The Mohawk Street project involves the demolition of the old Cockshutt Plow Co. office building — save the preservation of key architectural features — and the preservation of the timekeepers' building. “We couldn't come to an agreement with the contractor in terms of language,” Wolfe explained after the council meeting. “We didn't want to lose the opportunity with other work moving ahead.” The contractor was working with the city on the contract for 66 Mohawk St. but the process was taking time due to what Wolfe explained were requirements requested by the city because it's a public entity. The complexity of the project, given the timekeepers building will need to be protected during the demolition of what remains of the office building, didn't help. The two buildings were damaged by a spring fire that heavily damaged the office building — it was mostly demolished to allow firefighters to safely extinguish the blaze — and left the timekeepers building with water and smoke damage. In response to a question from Ward 3 Coun. Dan McCreary, Dworak said the addition of 66 Mohawk St. to the Greenwich abatement and demolition tender should not delay council's intent to have demolition begin on the sites before the end of this calendar year. “As soon as resolution's passed, in fact tomorrow morning, we will get tender documents amended to include 66 Mohawk and have Cole Engineering review the document,” Dworak said. The costs of demolition for 66 Mohawk St. would still be paid through the insurance process— the city will be responsible for its deductible of $300,000, with the remainder of the costs being covered by the city's insurance company. The tender award should be subject to council review and/or approval when the bids are opened later this fall. http://www.brantfo...-demolition-tender

Check here to see when the tender is issued and when one is accepted. Up until such time you always have a chance. http://www.brantfo...Pages/default.aspx
