|  | | | One of my exploring partners has been working on a documentary about our hobby for the past year or so whenever we go out. It's more about what exploring means to each person, what different people get out of it.
He doesn't do the online forum thing, so I figured I'd post the trailer for it here for him. It's a full length hour long documentary.

I've seen the full rough cut. I think he just wants to film a few more locations for some variation on footage to cut in and get an interview with a female explorer for the full spectrum.
51eggs, I know it's sort of putting the idea out to the masses, I understand your position, but I think it really helps quell the popular belief (in the public or law enforcement side) that explorers are up to no good all the time.

I was just joking actually. I make videos too and am keenly aware that, for some reason, videographers take more heat for that sort of thing than regular photogs.

No nu-metal or overly goth mellowdrama music either. The music was all made by two of the explorers in the doc (who also don't post on here)

I definitely agree with him on this topic. I've seen countless people talking about their release of their books/photo galleries, etc and get mostly warm "congratulations" and praise. However, whenever a video/documentary comes along it sparks debates of whether it will be the downfall of UE or not.
When I first joined this site I posted some videos and get several "warnings" via PM's saying to be careful when posting videos because of so much backlash. I only got some in the very beginning, but you can see by the view counts alone what most of UER thinks about UE Videos. When they used to be posted in Photography, they mostly would get ripped/ laughed at... now most of them get brushed under the rug. I've seen some quality stuff in here that only 1 or 2 people will post a comment on.
Granted, I think part of that reason is because it's a hell of a lot easier to cruise through pictures and comment, rather than invest 3-7 minutes watching a video. I think that is a major part of it... or maybe because 90% of UER are photographers might also play a role.

I'm with DS on this one. Quality looks good, but it seems to be missing everything except derelicts. What about all the other great things to explore?

Personally I've yet to see any of that video hatred. In my eyes its all fairly equal. If you make a good video or take a good photograph, people will look at it and often comment. In the same vein if you make something that's cruddy, people are going to rip it to shreds. Hell, look at anyone who tries to post an un-ironic HDR shot. I've seen people get pissy about things being online, but that's usually to do with the location, as opposed to the medium in which is was published.
The only reason I could see for backlash to come from videos, is if you are showing someone breaking, stealing, or doing something that would genuinely rustle the jimmies of the boards members. If its simply because you posted a video over a photograph, then whoever is giving you flack is a dipshit and should probably be ignored as they obviously didn't think before they posted said comment.
And as for videos getting lower view counts than pictures etc, sure, but who cares? If people want view counts go film some dumb shit with a cat and stick it on youtube, I'm sure there will be a bunch of 14 year olds ready to reply.
