BEst old Nikon zoom for exploring?

I have the D7000 and I'm looking at a zoom lens for taking footage that's fairly cheap. Something in the mid range like 18-70 (Have no clue if that's real) but something like that.

I'm not a photo scrub but in video I am. I need something that uses an aperture ring and manual focus.

An 18-70mm lens exists, but it's a G-type lens without an aperture ring, though it does have manual override of autofocus, but honestly, any AF lens can be set to manual with the flick of a switch. Check out this lens if you want something good that'll suit your mid-range needs.

For you D7000 you could use any D-Type Nikon lens, they maintain their aperture ring.

Look at KEH: http://www.keh.com...=7&cc=81135&r=WG&f

Remember, it's D-Types you're after.

Also, if you want to go older, the AI-S and AI lenses are manual focus and would work as well on teh D7000 I think...

A mean man in a tea store once kicked me out because my Pentax DSLR wasn't as good as his Nikon. For that reason I say buy a Sony.

I think the Kit lens is great for UE. You can get pretty wide at 18mm for landscapes and architecture, and you can focus pretty close on 55mm for a nice detailed macro if you need it. Somebody I appreciate very much once said, the 18-55 is really all you need if you're not lazy. (Ken Rockwell)

If you don't mind spending some money, get anything that has a fixed aperture - like a 17-50mm 2.8. This will help you in video, because it will not change the aperture when you zoom (other lenses might).

Also, I'd say get a second-hand 50mm 1.8D. It's ultra-cheap and it's one of Nikon's finest primes. It also looks beautiful on video.

And a tripod. Especially if you're filming with anything more than 20mm.

I dont't know if you're still looking and these are not zooms, but my 24mm f2 & 50mm f1.4 nikkor ai lenses (http://www.kenrock.../nikon/50f14ai.htm) always impress me with their sharpness and low light capabilities. Not too expensive either and manual focus is great on them. They are also supposed to be great for video.
