"Also known as infiltration, urban explorers break into abandoned buildings within the city limits, like the Kodak factory at Eglinton Ave. and Black Creek Dr. "

Great. Another article saying we BREAK INTO places which'll just put property owners on edge about us exploring... Thanks a lot Toronto Star.

So if I break into a building, and I'm not within city limits, it's an entirely different hobby?

Yes, it makes you a rural explorer, which conjures thoughts of pioneers and such, pushing through the wilderness in the hopes of finding a homestead.

Urban explores are perceived as gang houses, sprinkled with graffiti, heroine needles around every turn, homeless camped around barrels burning with garbage.

It's all perception. The media are masters of it.

But I live in a somewhat rural area, and travel to the city for its fun "urban exploration"... what does this make me?!

A goombah.

Actually I thought Urbex is exploring man-made structures/places

And Rurex is exploring mountains, trees, trails, lakes, etc.

Perhaps her name's familiar from this site?

I think I've had that one bookmarked since the 1200 baud Hayes modem days of yore.

Yep. They showed up as a fellow UER member and I were leaving... We didn't get caught though. Security did a full sweep of the outside of the building, saw no way in and assumed no one was inside. ;)
