| | UE in Ottawa < on 9/20/2013 6:58 PM >
| | | Hey everyone! So I am brand new to this forum, and actually joined because I am writing a big feature article on urban exploring in my university newspaper. Looking through this forum has really helped me understand more about the lifestyle, rules and regulations, etc. But I feel like I can't really write a good article about this without actually...participating. I want to make this piece as in-depth and real as possible, and from what I can tell, 99% of the draw to UE is actually in doing some real exploring. So, this is going to sound a little random, but if you're in Ottawa and are planning an exploration any time soon- want a tag along? I want to do a bit no matter what, but as I am such a newbie, I would love to actually go with someone who knows what they are doing and can give me a better insight into UE. So, yeah If you live in Ottawa and have a place you want to check out in the next week or two, and feel like having a random student come along and glean off all your knowledge, let me know! And just for everyone who lives in Ottawa: what would be a good, safe (since I'm not good at the sneaky bits) place to go check out if I end up going solo?

| | | There have been quite a few people over the years join the site to learn more about the hobby, tag along with explorers and then write an article for a school newspaper or other media. Aside from them generally not having any long-term interest in the hobby and disappearing from the site once the article is written, there is a growing dislike of media's attraction to the hobby. Too many people in it for all the wrong reasons. In short, I'm not sure that the response will be favourable but there are some explorers from the Ottawa area who might come to your aid. p.s. welcome to the site

| | | I was actually quite worried about that! And I can't make any guarantees that I'll be in it for the long haul- but it's something I've never tried before, and who knows? I get obsessed with things very quickly. In case anyone is wondering, UE will be written in a positive light- the article will not call UErs "criminals" or "break inners" or anything else.

| | | Friendly suggestion, don't mention access points, take photos off websites or take the 'adrenaline junkie' angle. You might get more people willing to meet up with you if you go out and find a new location, or explore a well known spot alone. Just drive around and see what you can find. | | | Personally, I'm not really too keen on tag-alongs... especially someone I don't know and/or trust and really have no clue what their intentions are. That being said, if I think about heading out somewhere that is simple enough that I won't have to worry about you, I'll let you know. Might not be much warning, though - maybe only a day or two.
