|  | | | Was surprised how much stuff was left behind; and as bad a shape as it was in, I was expecting worse. With all the books there, I would have really expected more “bonfires”. Guess someone figured out, if they don’t destroy it, it’s a good hangout. Heck, I’m surprised they didn’t fix up and use the court on the roof!

I will say, that was probably the best arrangement they have been in. Last I was there they were in a smaller half-assed pile. Leave it to the meth heads to do a shitty job stacking chairs.

It looks like some scavenger finally took my flattened grill off the roof. It was cool for a year or two before the scrappers started stealing all the furniture.
Here's a photo of it from the early 1980's when the infamous Richard Allen Projects were still surrounding it. They were all demolished and an entire neighborhood of new cheap housing went up in it's place by 2003.
Believe it or not, Bill Cosby grew up in these projects and his friends there were the inspiration for the cartoon "Fat Albert".

If you’re talking about my rendition, I’d agree, but I was surprised how much was still there (even with the excessive vandalism). I wouldn’t mind going back and actually explore (vs. almost literally running thru to keep up with my schedule).
But, what do I know - I enjoyed Henryton the first (and second, thanks to the company) times, RIP.

See, THAT’S the kind of stuff that makes exploring these places interesting. After a while the vandalism and graffiti makes everything look the same, but if there’s at least something left behind and some history available, then it can be cool again. According to Wiki, he may not have ever attended here, but still…
