| | | Don't take your organs to heaven - < on 1/28/2014 5:00 AM >
| | | Spur of the moment trip yesterday. Mental hospital that closed down in mid 2012 due to a budget cut. Searching for information about it turned up stories about how horribly patients were treated, no surprise there. It was pure luck that we were able to get into the place. There's a fence surrounding the entire campus and a security guard out front. We spoke to the guard and she wouldn't let us in for fear of getting in trouble, but said it was alright to walk around the outside. Found a couple of barns, one in which many boxes of expired Kodak developer/fixer were discarded. Also found an old house and an incinerator. Thought the trip was going to be a bust until we literally found the keys to the place just lying around. The keys let us through the fence and into the main building, and apparently the guard wasn't all the concerned because when we were leaving 3.5 hours later she smiled and waved. 75% of the air conditioners were running full blast so the place was freezing. The whole set can be viewed here. (82 images)

| | | Nice set, and what a funny story. Do you think you find the discarded keys from when the place was open or did some lousy guard lose their security keys on campus?

When I glanced down and saw the key ring sitting there I looked at my friend and said "No fucking way..." Didn't think any of them would actually work, but tried it on one of the padlocks nearby and it popped open. Hellz yeah! Tried it on the fence padlock, open. Opened a couple of the main building doors and stairwell doors to let us up through the whole thing. Some of the doors were unlocked already! When we were leaving I put the key ring back where I found it. I have a feeling the key ring was either lost or placed there deliberately so the guard or whoever wouldn't have to carry them around. Probably lost though, because it looked like there were some personal keys on there as well.

| | | Really cool set and story. It always cracks me up when they turn operating suites into storage rooms.

| | | Nice set, and what luck! Should've at least hid 'em in a different spot, for a return trip! Hell, they might still be there. Who knows.

| | | Thanks guys! Since I wasn't sure if someone placed the keys there on purpose I didn't want to move them and risk security/maintenance changing all the locks. And it just didn't feel right moving or taking them.

| | | Thanks! Yeah, there were probably 10-15 boxes full of film developer and fixer, all expired in 2012. I'm guessing it was for developing x-rays because there was a medical section of the building with a lightbox on the wall.

| | | Haha, love the meme! The doors were mostly self-locking but we made sure to lock up behind us; don't want any stupid kids or vandals getting in too easily. I'll be keeping an eye on this location.. we didn't have time to get into any of the out-buildings, including the chapel. Hell, I'm surprised they haven't demolished it all yet.
