| | | Some people thought it would be cool to buy an old schoolhouse and live in it. The rumor is that they bought it from the school district for $1. The first month, they got heating bill for over $10,000. So they cut back their living space to what was the principal's office. Then the roof started leaking and they didn't have the cash it was going to take to fix the entire roof, so they let it go.
Then came a heavy, wet snow.
The city condemned the building, but the owner's living space is in an unaffected part of the building. The owners continue to live in the building. The city wants it fixed or demolished. Neither the city nor the owners have the money to pay for its demolition. With the building having a "condemned" status, the owners can't sell it unless they fix or demolish it. So there it sits. Not explorable unless you want to get in a confrontation with the owner who still lives there.
In order to use your head, you have to go out of your mind. |

| | | I lived in an old school for a while. It had been converted into apartments with 10-foot ceilings and a view of the Ohio River. Unfortunately, it was in East Liverpool, OH.

| | | There are a couple of these old brick beauties lying around IA. There's one in a town... I want to say in the generally northeastern quarter of the state that's covered in beware of dog signs that I'd like to investigate further but I can't remember the name of the damn town (drove by it once). There's another really lovely one down in Rose Hill and while the guy isn't living IN the old building he does live on a trailer in the yard and seems to be home all the time (doesn't have a problem with people taking photos outside but doesn't want anyone going in). To name a few... One day I'll be sneakier.
