I hope none of you missed Ontario's best secret...

Hi everyone, as I was growing up in the early 80's, I was introduced to the world of exploration when I visited a place on Bigwin Island. In the twenties, it was a resort complete with a tower, ballroom, accomodations and a full golf course. Since the late sixties, it was abandoned and left almost undisturbed by vandals as it was on an island. There was an abandoned steam boat and two intact ferries waiting to be explored. A water tower, two large hotels, dance hall, eating area. Workers buildings, maintanace buildings and even an abandoned landing strip for airplanes.

Wow, what an amazing place, dosens of buildings, crown moulding, solid wood doors and brass door handles, left to rot. The hardwood floors where exposed to the elements and the original pane windows where not broken. I explored this place every year and the experience will never leave me. When I was in university and in the middle of exams, I'd daydream of escaping to that island and think of how peaceful it was. Alone in these monsterous buildings on an island in Muskoka.

Every time I visited, I imagined how amazing it would be if it was restored back to it's former glory. At the same time, I new that something special would be lost if it were modernized with high efficient windows, modern furnature, MDF moulding and rich grey haired men with pink golf shirts and Dockers.

Anyway, it happened. In the mid nineties, it was restored and several buildings were torn down. Today, it is an exlusive resort and they also tore out thousands of trees to modernize the golf course.

I am nolonger aloud to visit these buildings and I don't think I want to.

Fortunately, I took quite a bit of video footage of the buildings so when I have time, I might post them online for all to see. If you are interested, please reply to me as this will give me insentive.

Here is a website for the new golf course. You can check it out if you like.
