| | | What's a CF Combat? Does anyone know where I can find something similar to this: http://www.lowepro...treet/shoulder.htm I love the look of that thing, but all it comes with is the top part. It doesn't come with any pouches, or the waist belt (WHICH IS REQUIRED TO USE IT) So for like $40, all you get is some useless piece of harness that does nothing. You have to buy everything separately!!

| | | Yeah, that's the Street and Field system for professional photographers. The idea is that it's totally modular... instead of trying to make a vest with certain sized pockets, they sell you a belt/harness with clips so that you can attach whatever pouch size is appropriate for the gear you're trying to carry. It can get expensive, but they have a near-infinite selection of pouches, so you're sure to get something that works perfectly for what you're trying to carry. I want one myself, but personally I'd just get the belt (I already wear my camera on my regular belt, getting the S&F would allow me to carry my flashes, flashlights, extra batteries, etc on my belt as well). Edit: here are the pouches and here is the belt that you have to buy. [last edit 10/3/2004 8:01 AM by Feztaa - edited 1 times]

| | | I'm now bidding on a waistbelt/harness combo on ebay. I really hope I get this, but I'm not getting my hopes up too high. There's always some assclown out there willing to jack the price up for you. Unfortunately, I don't have that much money...

Duh, that's why you BE that assclown and wait until the last few seconds to bid. It's mean and looked down upon, but after dealing in the camera equipment section of Ebay, which is extremely competetive, I've learned that being an asshole saves you money.

| | | I have gone through several harness systems, and tactical vests, not just for UE. The largest problem I have with nearly every single one is if you invert, climb, repel, or run fast your fucked.

You don't have to look like GI Joe for your equipment to be useful.

Yeah, I'd rather try to adopt the look of a semi-pro photographer. It won't get you off, but it might put cops/guards at ease more (e.g. not gonna come at you expecting to have to draw a weapon or similar). The fact that I am a semi-pro photographer kinda helps. (ok, so I sell prints occasionally, but it still counts!)

| | | Try looking for a load bearing vest (LBV). I've never looked at anything else, seeing as both parents are ex-military. Get a nice one of these, and everything should be fine whether you're upside down or sprinting your arse off.

| | | i concurr, LBVs are perfect. I have a standard black M-16 vest. fits very comfortably, hold PLENTY of gear for UEing (digital camera, hoardes of batteries, headlamps, mini mags, tools/knife, flashlight filters, hand-sanitizer, and other odds n ends. Also the pockets are perfect for film, lenses, filters, camera bodies etc. if you wanna use it for strictly photography. of course i use a british S10 gas Mask bag for my photo stuff which, for all intents and purposes should actually clip right on to the back of the vest so I have all my gear draped comfortably over my ass. Here's a pic of mine, which AFAIk is pretty much the standard-issue, basic M16 load bearing vest. So it's probably your most cost-effective solution, especially if you have a big surplus store nearby not the best image I know, but this picture's from an older thread i posted recommending the vest and those particular gloves : P
