| | | | | | Twin Task Flashlight - 80 hours of light < on 10/8/2004 9:08 PM >
| | | I know it's almost winter time and that generally means less light and more time for us to spend exploring. So I wanted to post this about the flashlights I and some in the groups I've been in use. It's called the Twin Task Light and it's military spec basically. Ditch the POS maglights and pickup a Twin Task or something similar... I have 2 of them now and the one I haven't changed batteries on since April 2004. I use it now and then and it's still bright as shit. The normal bulb is ready to die but there is enough battery to still make the LED's bright. It's got a low level direct output so your not making yourself widely known with it. | | | That toy is far from military spec. Military spec flashlights are waterproof, and also certified to be used in environments where explosive gas may or is present (mines, etc). I'll stick with what I currently use.

| | | If you read, which you didn't, I said basically... Meaning it's built as tough as any other flashlight. And it's waterproof. I've dropped it in water a shitload of times. I was just offering a flashlight that last 80 hours. I'm sorry oh great one that has a far superior flashlight then the rest of us. [last edit 10/8/2004 9:56 PM by Ranger187 - edited 1 times]

| | | I have a 3C twin task. I don't know if it's mil-spec, but it is a pretty tough light. Smaller than a 2D mag but brighter, smooth beam, and longer battery life. If the LEDs provide enough light for you, you should check out the Inova X5T. It's about the same size as a 2AA maglight but as bright as the 3C twin task with 6 LEDs on. It's also a pretty tough waterproof light. They also have a few new small bright luxeon lights.

| | | Sweet. I didn't know about the other Twin Tasks. I just ordered 2 3C's as we speak. Gotta love 160 hours of use per battery. ;)

(edit to thirstysandwich) LEDs have realy long run times. like 100 000 hours i think. as for the other type of bulb im not sure. [last edit 10/9/2004 12:14 AM by Bobtheallmighty - edited 1 times]

| | | I have had the one 2D for 1 year and the new 2D for 2 months. I can't wait for the 3C to come in. They are great UE flashlights... Better then a bright white lite drawing attention and nuff light for tunnels and rooms...

| | | Your correct. LED is low level light per say. It's meant to light a close proximity and not shed a shitload of lumens aka light. If you want to be more stealthy, then LED is the way to go. If you want more light, the any Xenon or HID type bulb are great. Fortunately, this light does 5 led's, 10 led's and Xenon. So you have the best of both worlds. It might sound stupid, but I carry 2. One for the bright light, and when that dies I still have about 5 hours of LED left and one for straight LED... MOst of the shit we do is underground or in the dark so low light is key.

Most LEDs last like 10,000 hours or something ridiculous. EDIT: I'm a big fan of the Pelican M6, and any 2x Lithium lights. I dropped the Legend LX down a slide and it broke instantly. Even though its cheap its pretty breakable. Good info on lights at: flashlightreviews.com [last edit 10/9/2004 1:34 AM by F A S T - edited 1 times]

| | | That lools like a nice light. It's very affordable. I could really use one with an adjustable beam. I generally use the Inoza X5 second gen. I ownewd the 1st gen as well. I've been VERY happy with the light, but it doesn't have an adjustable beam. I usually cary two so I may try and pick up 1 of the AA twin task lights to replace my extra inova.

| | | I have a 2D TwinTask and I've found it to be plenty bright for almost everything UE-related I've done so far. The only annoying thing is that, while the three "modes" are useful (half LEDs, all LEDs, Xenon bulb) you have to push the switch each time to switch among them. So if you're exploring with only half the LEDs on (as I usually do), and you suddenly need to turn off your light, you have to click the button three times before it goes out (once to go to all LEDs, once to go to the Xenon bulb, and then finally off). Not a great solution, for example, if you think you hear someone coming, to suddenly have an obvious increase in light, as well as a change in color (the LEDs are bluish, while the Xenon is more yellow). I deal with it by just flipping the end of the light against my shirt and clicking it off that way, so no extra light appears to draw attention. Other than that, it's been a great light. I also own a Maglite 4D for use as a CHUD-thumper (not my word -- I stole it from someone on here) or for when I know I'll need a lot of light. -- Mat

| | | Matc, You and I do the same thing. It's a little bit of an annoyance or just the "lazy factor" kicking in to have to push the button a few extra times to turn it off, but I also just put it against my shirt and turn it off so you don't see me chaniging through the different modes..

| | | I'm a huge fan of LED lights myself. I wouldn't mind one of these so I'd have a standard flashlight handy for the few times I actually want a nice long beam. Truth be told I usually find myself settling for the $14 little LED I have on my keychain. It's a lil bigger than a keychain-sized minimag, aluminum, and very very handy. my closest companion in the tunnels of the whitby psych.
