Amen. I've notice a bit of a snobby attitude here, especially when it comes to people considered "new" to the scene. *SOAPBOX* I can understand not wanting a scene to grow too much for fear of it collapsing under its own weight or being saturated with idiots, but the general response here to commonly-asked questions often amounts to little more than "Search the forums, you're a noob, piss off", often followed by the thread in concern being moved/locked. A more constructive way of dealing with such situations would be to provide a link to a thread containing the relevant info, or to just ignore it. Doing so would provide a more UE-educational environment, and would help avoid ill-feeling towards the moderators. Yes I am saying this partly because I'm pissed that some of my threads have been moved/locked, but I feel I have a valid point and this thread seems like the most appropriate place to rant. */SOAPBOX*

| | | I think part of the reason that there's usually a rapid response to newbies bringing up a question for the 50th time is that by then, we've all see the question, we've all talked about the question, and it was resolved (or not) a while ago. We're sick of it. Now, this may not be the case for all of you, but I know I kinda go 'Oh my god, what now?' whenever I see another thread on lockpicking, or camo, or ethics (ugh), or what kinds of shoelaces are best for Jester's Tabi boots. I consider myself a pretty relative n00b here - I've only been around for about... 10 months or so, I wanna say? But even then, if I have a question on a topic that seems to be relatively common, I'll run a search in the forum for it first to see if its been brought up before. I'd think that new people would at least acquaint themselves with the board and what kinda of things have been posted in the past before jumping right in. Its just the courteous thing to do. That's just my take on things though. footsteps light, flashlights bright -~ DT

| | | When I discovered this place, I spent at least a month, and quite possibly more, just watching the conversations, learning about the community, how people acted, and catching a lot of stuff I'd have otherwise missed. I think such a period is essential to integrating successfully and respectfully into a place like this one. People who don't bother to try to understand a place like this before they post are inconsiderate, impatient and disrespectful.

| | | Thats what I did too. I found a post of MaxActions while googling about drains, and I came up here. I spent some time reading many back posts, and learning a lot from them, not even bothering to post anything, becouse it might have already been discussed, and there was so much stuff to read through. I am now trying to make it through the Location Database, but that will be a while. I think by taking the time to read the back posts, I gained a familiarity for the board, and got an idea about how stuff works here. I still consider myself pretty new, only having been here for 10 months, and having only a margin of the posts and experiance that some of the people here have.

| | | I am a veteran of a couple of different forums, mostly J-body related (Cavalier, Sunfire, etc.) and one thing about a forum is that as it gains members, the attitude changes. You like the attention, but the questions that have been asked 50 times get old. We get that alot on the J-body.org... Their favorite noob put-down is "welcome to last week" or some such other variant. This board is actually polite compared to some of the forums over there. Here, you can at least get your opinion in and get a somewhat intelligent debate going. Samurai

That's because this is what a forum is meant to be, a group of people who are discussing an activity that they all like to do. Other forums are just "Yo check out this new cartoon!!!" and other such posts, with possibly a bit of talking about the given theme. That's because they aren't places to discuss an activity; they are places to discuss other crap, with people who share an activity. I like this better, and I bet it will stay around longer than those others.
