I am a newbie to this site, and to the UE thing. I guess I did alot of it in my teenage years, but didn't realize what I was doing at the time (teenage beer drinking parties in abandoned buildings, especially if yu live in Welland, seems almost like a rite of passage).
Seeing a site like this have inspired me to get into the urban exploration, and would like to know if anyone in my area has checked out the welland Courthouse. Now there are tours to the general public, but there are areas that i noticed were off limits (what an invitation!), and these off limits areas of the courthouse lead to old jail cells. I only have acouple pics of the jail cells that are shown on the tours.
Has anyone been to the other floors where access is restricted? I imagine those are other cells as well, and would look similar to these.....

Also, I will be looking into getting a grand tour of the former Park Theatre in downtown Welland. I had the pleasure of checking it out a couple weeks, as there is a property manager that's a friend of mine. If anyone wants to join me, let me know...

Awesome pics, I was actually in the Welland courthouse last week on non-UE related business (*eyeshifts*)
I kid, I kid, I wasn't a defendant or anything  (*this* time....*eyeshifts again*)

| | | | I remember getting a tour of the courthouse at least 20 years ago when my mother worked in the Sheriffs Office. She got the janitor to take me for a walkthrough and I remember seeing the jail cells and a storage room with a trap door on the floor where there were hangings. I have always wanted wanted to go back to see it again but for some reason I haven't. It is not an option anymore as I do not know anyone who works there anymore and I don't imagine it would be easy to get in to see more than just the public tour areas.

| | | | Yeah, these pics were taken during the Open Doors event. During the tour is when I noticed the stairwells blocked off with the big warning signs. I ended up taking these pics as everyone was leaving, and we were like the last tour of the day. As my last pics were taken, the rest of the group was ahead of me, and I was all alone in this area, and could have easily shimmied over the barricade ( a large sheet of wood nailed across the entrance to both the upwards and downwards stairwell, not even chest high on me and I am short (5'6"), with warning signs). Now I am kicking myself in the ass that I didn't!
