About 3:30 pm, someone was arrested by UT Police for trespassing in the steam tunnels. Was it anyone from here? Someone in a green and black shirt by chance?

Was this today?

Because yesterday I was poking about in the lower basements of the Bahen Centre thursday. But defiantly wasn't arrested.

Ugh, bad, bad move on that guys part. There's way too many people around at that time to even try and get in, not to mention that there's always the possibility of running into Phys Plant workers at that time.

Although, I also hope that if they managed to get in undetected that they didn't open any of the doors down there. Surprisingly enough, some people don't seem to notice the bright orange alarm warnings....

Yes, it was today.

Don't forget about the concealed alarm contacts that aren't even visible until the door has been opened and the alarm activated.

Yes, but like I said, the doors have bright orange lettering on them that state very clearly that the door is alarmed... and so far I have not come across a door that has alarm contacts and does not have that notice on it.

Still though... why in the middle of the afternoon? It's pretty much a bad idea to do anything on the U of T grounds during the school year in the middle of the afternoon. Even on a Saturday, there are a lot of students and staff around.

What's punishment does this carry if your a non-student compared to a student.

I know the maximum punishment for a student caught down there is academic expulsion. I don't know of anyone getting that, however. I have heard of students getting academic probation for being caught down there, though.

I imagine the penalty is worse for a non-student, though.

How should I say this... I was one of the guys involved with the "arrest" on Nov 5. Even though I don't think I have to, I feel the need to tell the entire story. We're from PKTO, Toronto's Parkour Network. We set up a meet for that day on St. George Station, with the plan of training in U of T's regular spots. But everyone was excited that day and decided to look for different areas, explore U of T. We get near the spot with the three big water tower, the little quiet area, where the steam plant was. We went around back and saw the framework. It looked cool to to do some climbing. some of the guys went. Two of us stayed behind (I injured myself earlier, theother guy was carrying bags ), while five of them went ahead. They went through the first time and everything was fine, where they left through the fire exit. But this one guy saw a another way to go further in, so they ventured in again. Unluckily, the "green" shirt guy was seen by one of the workers. He ran out and I guess the worker called security. It was really stupid of us to go in during the day, let alone a second time. In the end, no one was arrested, one guy was cuffed, but everyone was alright. They gave us a warning. We did not mention anything about UE, PKto or Infiltration. We blamed it on Urbanfreeflow. But no matter what, we have ruined what reputation that Parkour has in U of T, UE also. I'm was just a particitant, has nothing to do with the PKto site, but I feel obligated to explain what happened that day to you guys. I'm sorry if this causes any inconvience to the UE scene in TO.

On a side note, I really enjoy the thought of discovering something forbidden.

P.S. none of us were students, and there were no alarms activated.

What the fuck were you thinking!?!?!? Stay away from the physical plant! Theres ALWAYS at least two workers in there at all times. They also take security pretty seriously there. May I suggest staying away from active cogeneration plants in the future.

Holy shit, you guys climbed the framework behind the Phys Plant?

I thought tunneling mid day was nuts... but holy crap!

The only time I've been near the Phys Plant is through the tunnels themselves, and when I realized where I was I got the fuck out of there. It's staffed 24/7 by at least two guys... and unlike many other parts of campus, there is no leniency there.

Everybody pile on.

As I went walking, I saw a sign there,
And on the sign it said “No Trespassing.”
But on the other side it didn’t say nothing, That side was made for you and me. - Woody Guthrie, "This Land Is Your Land"

Sounds like it turned out OK. Not a success, really, but they didn't get arrested, and the were not students. I read Infiltration #5 recently about a secret subway station near where they were. My palms got wet reading about it, but man.... the problems. Subway tunnel crawling, cool, but I keep thinking of that scene in Superman. Let me put it this way. This expedition ended with nobody hurt or with criminal records that follow them at every border crossing. Better luck next time.

What happened to them is definetely the exception. As it stands, I can't believe the Mice didn't get the Metro's involved in this, because I've seen the Metro's get involved over far, far less. Any of them very easily could've ended up with records that would haunt them for this.

That being said, I'm not trying to scare non-students from exploring the UofT grounds. Just use a little common sense, stay the fuck away from the Phys Plant, and try and do stuff later at night when there are less people out (and it's dark).

As for the Bay Lower station... although I don't condone tunnel running, if you have to do it to get down there, do it outside of rush hour but during service hours. 99% of the time they will not be switching commuter trains through there, so I don't think it would be all that bad. After hours, with the work cars, is a whole different matter.
