| | | Hi, ah, two things, I just to hit the exact wrong two buttons in the email message about the next meeting. Now I've rejected ths system twice, so it things I never want to be aprised again. This is because I'm an idiot. If there is a moderator out there, how do I undo that? But more importantly, it seems I have a broken dam of images and thoughts flowing in spate now that I've found this site. Without telling you about events in the past, I have a question about a Toronto monument. East of Redpath Sugar along the harbourfront was this enormous cement twin silo that approached on the right, if you were on your way to Polson and The Docks. This building (is it still there?) from the Infiltration viewpoint was/is a cherry. Twin, high connected silos that were about three stories high, and here's the best part: there were were no windows in this building anywhere until your reached the very top of this twin tower. Then it was circled by small panes. I wondered how on earth to get up there. For a guy who built treeforts as a kid... Has anyone been to this building? Brass

| | | That sign ('Sold by Lance Trumble') has been there for at least a few years. That's where the big homeless camp was, until Home Depot or Canadian Tire (can't remember which, I'm pretty sure it was Home Depot) had them all kicked out. The land's pretty toxic, which sucks, because (as far as I know, but I'm no ninja) the only way you might get in there would be either a very tall ladder, or digging your way through the bottom.

I remember when they blew up the office building like 7 or 8 years ago... it was a nice, quiet sunday afternoon and I was wandering in the area, thought and F*ing bomb went off.

| | | It's called controlled demolition, when they blow up the supports of the building and it collapses in on itself.

It's not so much the original building owners as the decades of illegal dumping of toxic waste all over the portlands area, most of which is actually infill to begin with, so it wasn't exactly clean dirt to start with. Although that would make a good band name.

| | | I haven't been there myself, but I have been told that the ladders within the silos are in horrendous condition. If you make it to the top apparently there is no floor to walk on. For all the trouble it would take to get to the top there is little pay off. That is what I have heard. I may be totally wrong and this might be the most incredible location in Ontario though.

| | | I have a copy of the Victory Soya Mills in my archives. There were two attempts to bring down one of the towers. The first one done around October or November of 1995 left the tower leaning and the second one done in Feb 1996 brought it down. I remember driving by that place on my way to work and seeing it leaning during this time. I tried expanding the text of the article from the Toronto Sun Feb 12, 1996 for better reading.
Gone for a while. Be back when I'm back. |

http://www.thestar...&cid=1026145760791 Two babies born to Tent City mothers face future health risks — including brain damage — because they were exposed to a toxic stew of chemicals like mercury and lead on the former shantytown site. The poisonous land, where ground dust is laced with carcinogens, was known to everyone from landowner Home Depot to Toronto city council, the city public health department and the environment ministry.
According to the health department and the environment ministry the land is very toxic and not safe to be on...sounds like a good idea to stay out. [last edit 11/20/2005 1:46 PM by Daddy-o - edited 1 times]

gee, very nice. I won't walk past this dump anytime soon again. sounds like a amerikan trick, not having any warning signs up. I thought about going in, glad I didn't. what a joke, who's taking the blame for the cleanup?
