| | Abundent Life Building In Tulsa < on 11/13/2005 7:26 AM >
| | | I used to live across the street from this. It was built as a church in the late 1950's for Oral Robert's ministries. There are no windows anywhere in the building except for the front doors. There is a loading dock around the back side. Legend has it that this is where he processed all the money from his church. Millions and millions of dollars. It is around 7 stories tall plus a basement. There was a network quality Tv studio down there. The last occupant was South western Bell who pulled out in 1986. I never made it inside as much as I wanted to. The front doors face a busy street and truthfully this is not one to do alone because if you get hurt in there no one is going to hear you. If anyone is interested there is a folder in the newspaper morgue in Tulsa with lots of stuff on the place. Inluding pictures of a room size ibm computer from the 1960's.

| | | Cool looking building! It does have that "Fort Knox" quality about it. All the more reason to go for it.
I'm a blatant waste of time and resources. |

| | | Something I forgot in my initial post. If you try this building FORGET the back entrance. Yes there is a loading dock back there but the whole back side of the place is visible from the upper floors of several adjacent apartment buildings. One of the buildings is a senior citizens complex and the bored residents will call the police on you. Also avoid the roof for the same reason.

| | | even then I would recomend going in the front. Things are lit up well enough down town at night. Even as far on the outskirts as it is. One of the apartment buildings I mentioned is 32 floors. I used to work there so I can say for sure that getting into this one has a serious visibility problem at least from the rear.

| | | I don't think that the building has the computer system anymore. I talked to a few people who visited the abandoned building years ago and found no such thing. They said you go in through the large rolling door in the back. They had to climb in with rope through a flap over the door.

| | | The large rolling door is possibly a freight elevator. Legend has it that this place had the largest freight elevator in the world at the time it was built. The abundant life was built for Oral Roberts. He was collecting massive amounts of money in donations to his church. Millions and Millions of dollars. They would drive the mail trucks in and take them straight down to the basement for unloading. I would love to go in myself but I am out of town for college right now.

| | | That place looks more like a fortress. I wonder if it was designed with that possibility in mind. You know how religious zealots can be.. LOL

| | | It was designed like one. Oral had sometimes tens of millions of dollars in the basement vaults in that place. another odd bit of trivia is that the workers had to wear special pocket-less coveralls. and the money got sucked into the vault from the opening room via one of those tubes like you used at the bank. Not sure how true it is though. There was also supposed to be a network quality tv studio in the basement.

| | | I'm from Tulsa but now live in Germany. When I used to live there I would jog by this building, as well as lots of other cool buildings that could be explored. Next time I'm back home, we should get into this building.

| | | This is kind of off the subject of the Abundant Life building but I was wondering if anyone has heard of an old POW camp where they kept German POWs during WWII that's located somewhere in Broken Arrow. I've looked for this place and never could find it.
