| | Caledon-Orangeville Area < on 12/7/2005 8:15 PM >
| | | Hi, I am looking for some good locations to check out north of the GTA. Does anyone know of any old houses or abandoned farms that are good? I know a few but I don't want to go alone, my husband is not into this. Maybe someone female to explore sites with near me?? LET ME KNOW, NOW, RIGHT NOW.

| | | Off the top of my head there are three reasonably interesting sites in the Caledon/Orangeville, one west Caledon, one in south Caledon, and one in Orangeville itself. I'm not counting abandoned houses here as I am sure there are ample amounts of them around. My suggestion is that you go out and look for them - that is the standard response on this site to anyone who posts here looking for information on site locations.

No one likes a lazy ass, and even fewer respond kindly to demands like that. Get off your ass, get in your car, and go look.

| | | i agree with everyone else. it's not that hard to find them, if you go and look for them. plus, you need to know what to look for. here's some hints: - unkempt driveways/lawns - broken or missing windows - graffiti - check for vehicles on the property they are easier to find than you think. take a drive and see what you find.

Maybe you should ask if you could meet with anyone, much easier that way. And meeting people here helps with trust issues, and thus other help. Making demands is not a good idea... but if it was in a joking manner, maybe some sort of to let us know...

Bah. There's lots to do if you have imagination. For me, one of the great perks of UE is always having something to do.

GEEEZ!!!! As if the "demand" was serious. I did not expect to be taken so seriously! Name here IS Sillygirl. Does that tell you anything?? I know around here there are lots of abandoned houses, just asking for some tips or maybe a good location to KINDLY share!! Not asking for a kidney. Geeez!!! As for being lazy, well no, more like cheap. Gas prices...Also, work nights 13 hours 5 days a week. No time!!!! I have a metal detector to bring along too, if that helps. Any good, safe locations around Caledon to share greatly appreciated.

| | | I'm with ya on this one, the price of gas is preventing me from hopping in a car and going scouting. However the rest are right, you did sound demanding, that's the trouble with text, it doesn't convey the same amount of emotion. Basically when you are driving keep your eyes peeling for the things that faded_x mentioned. Always have your UE gear with ya also (Camera, Flashlight, boots, respirator). And of course share with everyone here.

The problem with the world is dumb people. I'm not advocating capital punishment for dumb people. I'm just suggesting we remove all the warning labels and let the problem solve itself. |

Thanks very much. I still feel like even though it looks abandoned, someone will be in there. I have a few places in mind, I will have to scout them and maybe ask neighbours if they have answers. My husband thinks this is kid stuff and trespassing. I don't know anyone who lives close and likes UE. Thanks for the tips, -Michelle

| | | you're welcome. when i'm unsure of how completely abandoned a place is, i make sure i have a story planned out incase someone is in there. with some simple props, you too can avoid arrest. -wear all black, carry a bible, if anyone asks, you're with the Jehovah's -make business cards that say something like "graphic artist and amateur photographer" or claim that you are from the historical society -say you're checking out the property because your uncle is looking to purchase some land in the area, and you told him you'd take pictures of the house those are a few of my *personal* faves. lol. though i have never been caught yet... dont jinx it!! ;]

| | | - Photography Student is always my favourite - Free-Lance Photographer (have a card) - Private Investigator, flash any sort of idea, if it's fast enough, like a student card, people won't worry about it. - Real Estate Agent, have a cell and be talking on it (even if there's no on on the other end) and have a camera and be taking photos of the place (you probably will be anyways) And Above all else act like you're supposed to be there, as soon as you start fumbling with yourself they will become warrey of your claims and call you on it. Be confident, assertive, and know your cover story before hand. Those are the ones I enjoy using.

| | | White hard hat, work gloves and a clipboard work well too. You can say that you are an engineer or estimator working for the local municipality or for a development firm interested in restoring the building.
