| | Down town dallas subway... < on 1/1/2006 12:20 AM >
| | | Does anyone have any information on the abandoned dallas subway? I recall a couple of years ago, watching on the news how a section collapsed. Dallas repaired the section by closing off each end and filling it with concrete. Are there any more 'lines' or access to the portions that were not filled with cement???

I remember years (and I'm old so that means eaons) ago, I heard a story about how they were doing some construction in DT Dallas and drilled or broke into a subway station that was abandoned and forgotten. The story that I heard said something about how the lights were still on meaning that electricity was still being supplied to this station without anyone realizing it. Since then, I have been trying to find out more about it and have never found the news article quoted from nor have I found anyone that knows anything about it. This includes city workers, DART employees, police and the like. No one remembers anything about it or even hearing or reading any news stories about this event. Until I find out otherwise, I have to chalk it up to urban legend. Now, there is a tunnel running under Ft. Worth that leads from the courthouse to the jail that's big enough to drive a pickup through but it's still in use nad closely guarded by the police and sheriffs departments because they don't want any of thier bad boys running away or anything. Sometime in the new year I'm going to contact a judge friend of mine and see if I can get in to see or photograph it if at all possible.
"If I'm gonna get blamed for it, I might as well do it!" |

| | | Hi Dave, The old tracks crisscrossed downtown and went at least from Union Station over to the old Neuhoff meat packing plant where AA Arena is now. The underground shopping and pedestrian tunnels at One Main Place are just part of the old system they cleaned up so that gives you an idea of what they're like. Now, the tunnels are very segmented and I only know how to get in to a section of the old tracks. It all flooded in 2000 when a water main broke and it stays pretty wet down there all the time. THe last photo shows where the tracks die into the new concrete wall.
I'm a blatant waste of time and resources. |

| | | That's pretty much it. I started going down there in the late 70's and it was pretty extensive but now it's all blocked off into small sections. I went down through the parking garage where we used to go in and now it's got a 2 layer brick wall over the entire entrance. They still use the parking garage but now it has 24 hr bicycle patrols and mag stripe entry cards and cameras.Things sure have changed.

| | | Sad. That looks really cool. Sucks to know that there are still small inaccessible sections down there that just won't see the light of day or flashlight for years.
