Filmmaker Needs Your Help for War Movie! =)

Hello everyone, this message is big, but I have a couple things to say, haha. I’m an independent filmmaker working with an extremely low budget. My current project is a feature film set in World War II. Because of my budget the majority of the film will generally be shot around Ontario, but we’ll also be spending about four days in Europe to get a number of shots to edit in . If you take a look at my last short, The 5th Rangers, that movie is essentially a proof of concept for my next film. It shows off what is possible with a little work and great locations. The next one will be 1000 times more epic.

This is where UER members can help me out and maybe even get a special thanks in the credits. I need locations for my next film to add even more production value.. I’ve known about a couple for years, and I’ve already scanned the Ontario database and have found a number of possible locations, but I want to investigate my options. I’m not a full member so I can’t see everything.

So here I am, I'm wondering if anyone can help me out. Do you know of any locations that would make for great war-torn areas? Houses with 1920-40s european exteriors? Places were I can find beaten up vintage cars? I want to offer to take junk cars off peoples hands, or simply use the area the vehicles are in if it fits. I have some action scenes that would benefit from damaged vehicles scattered about. Factories, tunnels, sewer openings, houses, ruins. Places that looked bombed or war-torn. The Delco Ruins in Rochester is a great example. Though that is rare. Latest I’ve been able to figure out, the burned out area has been completely torn down. Was the rubble cleaned up though? Essentially anything WWII-esq would be awesome.

Lastly, would anybody be able to recommend me for full member status? It would be incredibly helpful. I’m not someone that wants to cause trouble for this community since it has already been very helpful to me. I’ve been on for almost 9 months and tend to rate pictures, I just don’t post all that much. I also have a couple of locations I would be happy to add to the database. (unless they are already there.. but I’m doubting it)

Thanks everyone, check out my website, leave a message on my forums if you wish. =)

If you are going to do any filming in the Hamilton area, let me know and I'll help as much as I can. Our whole downtown looks semi war torn anyway, so it should work well. I know of a few places off the top of my head that would look perfect.

I've got a huge love for World War 2 history so I hope I can help out somehow.

We’ll go the extra mile to film at the best locations. If a perfect one is around Hamilton we will be there at some point. I terms of locations, I’d love to hear of these ones you know off the top of your head Particle Man, maybe a private message. I forgot to specify that rural locations are best for two reasons: It fits the setting, AND in true urban explorer spirit, I’m not exactly paying location permits or really even asking if I can film in many of these locations, so I want as little visibility as possible. Total guerilla filmmaking. But if there is a simply amazing factory interior, I will do the work to make it match an exterior somewhere else. For instance I was at the Don Valley Brickworks a couple days ago, the North side ceiling is simply shredded apart, looks like shrapnel ripped through it. If nothing else, a shot of that will be in the movie.

Amazing Ampro, haha, you know what, I’m juggling so many different roles on this movie junk yards never even cross my mind. Still, any location with dead cars from the period that I can just use for free would be great. But now I know I’ll have some car no matter what.

Already some coolness happening, =)

as for locations within hamilton me and particle man normally have an access point in pretty much any building here in hamilton. Guerilla filming would be pretty scary but I love a challenge when it come down to it. if any location in the hamilton database suit your need contact Particle man and he will set something up for us.

We must also go out and meet the enemy before he reaches our shores. We must defeat him before he attacks us, before our cities are laid to waste.
