| | | Sealed/Closed Tunnels < on 1/25/2006 6:45 PM >
| | | I looked up some history on a place I have been wanting to visit and I found an article about a fire that ocurred years back. Apparently the fire fighters were unaware that there were tunnels between 2 of the buildings and also one leading elsewhere and it caused a huge problem in the spread of the fire. It also stated that since then the tunnels had been "sealed". Im just wondering, what does this usually mean? Do they fill them with concrete or something or just put bars over them or what? I was already interested in this place, but now its that much more intriguing!

| | | It could mean brick and mortar, it could mean plywood, it could mean a fire door, or it could mean concrete injected backfill ... every situation is unique. Dig a chateirre! ~Grit.

Thanks Ill keep my fingers crossed for no concrete. Wouldnt that be expensive? This town is so poor, I have a feeling they would go the cheapest route. Whats a chateirre? =P

| | | At Danvers State Hospital, The tunnel from the Bonner to the Kirkbride was completly sealed. They threw up two brick and mortar walls about 5 feet apart, cut a hole in the top and literally dumped concrete between the two.

Wow, that sucks! What a waste of a good tunnel! My main problem is that I dont quite know where to look. Most of the building has burned down and only a small part remains. Im going to try looking for a building design at the library.

| | | Considering they discovered the tunnel from a fire spreading I wouldn't be suprised to see a fire door or lots of brick and mortar. But if the town is poor who knows. Only way to find out is to check it out. Fallout and myself have some tunnel investigating of our own to do for NEOPEX

So since you got in, about how thick is that concrete wall that closes it off?

| | | If the one end is in a collapsed building, might be easier to look for the other end. And did the third building survive?
