| | | Flashlight Camera < on 1/29/2006 8:06 PM >
| | | I found this sitting at my Google homepage listed under Wired's news for the day, and couldn't resist posting it here. The price is completely outrageous, but wouldn't this just be a great toy to have? http://www.miiflashcam.com/ ~PW

| | | Holy low fat diet spreadable jesus christ on an atkins friendly whole grain bagel! Thing's got like a half million IR LEDs in an array around it. Something's kinda fishy about the high-school quality web-design and some of the discrepances in the specs though.
Contrary to popular belief, death isn't just for dead people. I know I was surprised too! It can happen to anybody! Horses, fiddler crabs, even a potato can die! - Tick |

| | | It doesn't seem to be purchaseable by civilians outside of organizations- goin' into military use, by the looks of it. If we orchestrated it right, we might be able to get money together from anyone on UER that wants one and make a bulk purchase under a fake business name. If they were affordable enough... I'm betting 500 to 2000 dollars US. edit: grammar [last edit 1/30/2006 3:09 AM by Blue90 - edited 1 times]

| | | This thing looks like a huge waste of money, for many reasons. First of all, as a flashlight, it is pretty useless. It is 17" long, weighs in at 2.2 pounds, and puts out 75 lumens of light. I don't know about others here, but I personally would not want to carry around a massive flashlight this size. Personally, my main light is 6.1" long, weighs 4.2 ounces, and puts out significantly more light (100 lumens on high). If you really do want a bulky, crappy flashlight, buy yourself a 4D Maglite. Secondly, I can't see how it would be useful as a camera. I know I would definitely not want to have to rely on a metal tube that's nearly half a yard long as my only means of taking a picture. On top of it's size, it's also not even a good camera (3 megapixels). Maybe some people like the idea because it's "cool" to have a tool that does 2 things in one. The only problem is, for the amount of money this thing costs, you could buy two individual tools that actually perform their jobs WELL. If this thing costs anywhere close to what I bet it costs, you could buy yourself a very nice digital camera, and several VERY nice flashlights for the same price. Oh, and the combination of all of your new flashlights and digital cameras you could buy will probably still be smaller and weigh less than this thing. On top of all that, the company itself looks very sketchy. The website looks like it was designed by a 12 year old, and if you actually read their warranty, you will find that if anything happens to the flashlight once you buy it, you are pretty much screwed - they won't fix it.

| | | yeah look like crap... and im sure que video quality is crappy. If you have to take picture buy a Camera, if you have to film buy a video camera, and if you have to see in the dark buy a fucking flashlight. Thing that do more than one thing suck in all the thing it does.

| | | Here's the "whole" low-down, and my apologies for not posting all of this previously; I was much too amused by the product to think clearly. Wired's Article: http://www.wired.c...02/play.html?pg=12 Look about three-quarters of the way down the page for the header, "The Shining"
The Shining This flashlight with a built-in video camera lets you record things that go bump in the night. The 17-inch aluminum torch cranks out a blinding 85,000-candlepower beam; 1 gig of memory holds up to 75 minutes of 640 x 480-pixel video. Switch to infrared mode and the 1.5-inch LCD shows you what's out there in the dark, without revealing your position to the bogeyman. MII Flashcam: $2,500, www.miiflashcam.com |
Yeah. $2,500. I'll stick with my head laser and my digi.

| | | ...Wow...
How useless is that? It'd be like trying to aim a shotgun by holding the barrel. Even at close range I'm sure it'd be impossible.
Also, no guns for UE!

| | | Hey, if your a tool dork, here is a good flash light. The only thing is the batteries are expensive, but last forever and are completely rechargeable.... http://www.lowes.c...Id=120218-70-DW919 Best thing about the is the handle. It allows you to basicly point the flashlight in any direction you want.
