Disposable/Expendable cameras?
< on 5/22/2006 5:00 AM >
Posted on Forum: Infiltration Forums

I've been hesitant to take my middle of the road consumer level digital camera (about $400 to replace) on runs for fear of loss or confiscation.

I've also seen some pretty amazing photography here, suggesting fairly high end rigs.

I've never actually had any run ins with security thus far so it may be a non-issue.

Has anyone had anything confiscated?

Does anyone use disposable cameras and if so what kind of luck have you had?

Unless it's a fed, or military site they can't confiscate your camera, memory card, or film. If it is a fed/military site quit while your ahead. Know your rights:http://www.picture.../article.php?id=91

My camera has internal memory as well as a card... I'll keep some innocuous pics in the internal memory, and the pop out/conceal the thumbnail-sized xD card if I think I'm going to be searched.

Here's some examples of photos taken with a disposable digital camera:

Yeah the disposable seems like a wasted effort.

The link in the initial reply was very enlightening. It's unlikely that a rent a cop would ever get physical with me (I'm a pretty big guy) but even so, in the unlikely event of being illegally forced to delete images, the slight of hand with the memory card is a smart idea.

an unnecessary smart idea; you can just use one of the dozens of memory-card-undelete programs that are available. they also work if you get smart and format your card on accident, as long as you don't write over the "lost" data, it can be recovered.

They can't do that, although if they agree not to press charges in a properly posted site I might agree to that.

IRONY ALERT: shooting pictures of abandonments with disposable cameras.

Great idea.

Well, you'd reach the quality of photography that about 80% of LDB locations have, and plenty of successful UE websites have used. Action Squad used to use a camera that had been dropped in the water and taped back together after exploding. Actually you can take some pretty good shots with a disposable now and then.

Old film cameras are the way to go
I shot with $100 a Nikkormat FTN for 12 years It's been dropped, knocked over and generally abused. Never gave me any trouble. Older 35mm cameras tend to be indestructible, and cheep.

It's easy to get into a excellent used system for $100-$200
What model of camera do you use now?
you should be able to find an older film camera with the same mount, and save money on lenses.

What kind of pictures do you take?
Do you need Auto exposure?
Do you use a flash?

you can be one of the "well people" by making the most of your stay at glenn dale
