Maze, Thank you for the clarification. It is funny how, even in the new paint scheme, they kept the hammer and sickle on the logo. Very nice.

Shall I keep it on this conspiracy theory "topic" or the intended Airplanes topic??

It was cost effective, for some time, but now we've purchased new heavy strategic airlift. I think I heard that it was just over a million for the Ants to land and fly over there.

| | | Posted by paradoxpictures2002 I've taken pictures at, around, and inside airports before, nobody ever seemed to care, and this was post 9-11. I have however been told numerous times by police and security that I wasn't allowed to taske pictures in a shopping mall. when I asked why I got the "well with terrorists and all" speech. Go figure, our malls are "safe" but our airports aren't.
|
Up in Canada, perhaps only here in Vancouver, malls are considered private property. When I opened a store in a local mall owned by Ivanhoe Cambridge, a security guard came and stopped me from taking 'before' shots of my location. I explained that it was in fact my own store, he said "You just lease it from the owner. You need to get permission from Ivanhoe." Sure enough, there it is in my lease, "Any and all photography on mall property is prohibited unless authorised by Ivanhoe Cambridge." SO... I waited until he went away, and picked up where I left off. I'd hope that you'd ask before taking a picture in my house.

* That is patently absurd. . . How do they plan to enforce that with the propagation of mobile phones with cameras? * Public property has a much different connotation that private property, malls and shopping centers are technically private property but are still public space - hence the mandate that they have restrooms and be accessible to the handicapped. * I guess what I am trying to get as is: What is the nature of the photography ban? Do they consider it a security threat? I am really curious as to the impetus of this idea. Is that a common thing in Canada? [last edit 7/31/2006 4:07 AM by DevilC - edited 1 times]

Hey, there's a lot of dumb shit out there man, this isn't abnormal. The same way prisons keep drugs and weapons out of high security jails, they don't! It's pointless to expect your common citizen, employed in any feild, able to be 100% effective at their jobs, resulting in some of the very cracks in security we exploit for our adventures. The war on drugs, terror, or anything else will never be outright won for this very reason. It's simply impracticle to monitor every square foot and every citizen in a prison, mall or contry, effectively. Laws exist to keep the law abiding citizens happy. They think those who are breaking the law are getting caught and punished or rehabilitated in our 'justice system'. /rant

The nature of the ban? I stated that in my other post. As far as your other questions, ask Ivanhoe Cambridge. I have no idea what other malls have in Vancouver, or other cities across this country have in the way of anti-photography laws or regulations, but I'm sure they're irrational fear based rules... for my own protection. ::

| | | The mall that stopped me from photographing was near Chicago. The dumbest thing about it was that we were taking some group photos on a trip. We weren't even taking pictures of the mall itself it just happened to be in the background. When the mall cop told me to stop my first response was, "If photography is prohibited then why are there no signs posted?". He had no answer to that. All he said was that it was mall policy and then he went off about how it had been since after 9-11 because terrorism had become more of a concern and that its was for our saftey. To that I responded "You guys must have a pretty high opinion of yourselves if you think that you mall is on the top of Al Qaeda's places to bomb list. He responded with a dirty look and I walked away.

| | | At the Birmingham Intl airport there are numerous spaces cleared along a fence.I actually stopped and photographed and filmed planes taking off and landing,a security truck was about 90 ft away but he didn't mind.He even kindly waved to me. But,a few days ago I went out to the mall and photographed.Mall cop showed up,told it wasn't allowed,so I kept taking pics. The cops at this mall will literally stalk you if you circle the lot a few times.I highly doubt Birmingham would be on any kind of hit list.

So you stopped shooting?
Fuck a security guard.
One of the malls here the main section is considered fourth street.
The police enforce the law in the mall as they would outside. (My city is a shithole, we used to be the meth capitol, we used to be the murder capitol)
