I broke my cherry!

So after quite some time of sitting on the sidelines, I finally got in the game. I found the location pretty much across the street from a place I used to work at, and I've been drooling about checking it out for a couple years. The other day I happened to stop by to check it out, and found that one of the windows bordering a door had been smashed, and replaced by a board bolted in in place of new glass.I tried the door and found it unlocked, so that set the wheels in motion. I went out and bought a cheap flashlight (BAD IDEA) and came back tonight to see what was up.

Now, this place is enormous, it's probably a couple million square feet, no, I'm not kidding, it's freaking huge, and it's layed out almost like a tic-tac-toe board, with a courtyard in the middle. As near as I can tell it used to be some kind of office/retail place, I don't really understand what it was used for, but when there are very few exterior windows, and of those, most face inwards towards the courtyard. All of the spaces inside are layed out like stores in a mall, big glass doors and windows facing the hallways, except there are no steel shutters to secure the businesses. They really look a LOT like stores in a mall, except in malls you usually have back hallways for loading and access and whatnot, but not here. There are shelves and mirrors and stuff on the walls like in mall stores, but overall the place is pretty empty. Also, I'm pretty sure it wasn't a mall because I couldn't find a food court, even though I didn't check the whole place out, but I did find a kitchen with a window that looked like it would be for food service.

Really I'm baffled by what it might have been, I'd like to check it out with other people sometime (SOON!), because it would be nice to have someone with me to say "Hey, what did that sound like to you?" I also haven't seen nearly the whole place yet, due largely to the aforementioned flashlight. I was supposed to be editing video tonight, but that plan fell through, and the only flashlight I could find was at a gas station, and it was a combo tweezer/led flashlight. Needless to say the combination of the two served only to detract from the functionality of both, and did nothing to enhance either. It lasted until I decided it was time to go, my foot hurts from broken toe, and I didn't know how long my light was going to last. On the way out I found the main maintenance room, and it looked to be pretty interesting, until the light flaked out on me and I was in about as pitch a blackness as I imagine there is. Smacking the light gave me just enough of a flicker to find my way the last 20 feet out and to the car.

I'd really like to meet up with new people to check this place out, quite possibly this weekend, with better light. There's a massive amount of parking at this place, set a ways off the main road, but if putting a car near the place is out of the question for anyone into meeting, there are plenty of other places in the area to park where there will be no hassle.

Sorry there are no pics to go with, my camera is missing in transit from a move. When I go back I have a camera I can borrow from a friend, and next trip will have pics.

***Edit The location is in Burlington Mass, just over the Bedford line. I'm in Waltham, and can travel to meet up.

I'm not entirely sure, the way the building is layed out, and the way all the sub-spaces are set up, it almost looks (this sounds strange, I know) like it was a testing area for retail stores. I borrowed a friend's camera, and I'm going to go back there soon, very likely this weekend. I'd love to have company for it, but will go alone if need be. I also have another target, I managed to stumble across the Metropolitan State Hospital in Waltham today. Some major work going on, some buildings being demoed. Want to do more than drive around the place.

So here I am talking to myself I guess, as I'm replying to my own posts... so after some Googling, I realized I had the wrong town as the address of the place. I changed the town to Bedford, Mass, and came up with a lot of results. Apparently, I wasn't far off at all in my guesswork, as it's purpose was to host showrooms. So, yeah, I guess stores would set up a non-retail store for I guess investors or whomever, and the space would double as an office.
