I was working on a roof in Millbrook the other day when I realized we were down the road from the old prison. Anyone know what is going on with the place? I know it was closed down a long time ago in lieu of the Lindsay Superjail, however I don't know if anything is being done with the place. You can see a bit from the main road, so it looks like its still standing at least. Anyone know the status of this place?

I made an attempt at scouting the place out one night about a year ago, however I decided to leave after seeing what looked to be an OPP car driving around the perimeter. As far as I know the place has been closed since 2003.

If the rest of the closed prisons in Ontario are any indicator, it will be locked up and well watched for a few years atleast

I grew up in Millbrook. To my knowledge, this building is still active and housing prisoners.

TORONTO (Sun Media) - It's not often someone breaks into a jail.
October 3, 2006

But that's what the OPP in Peterborough County are investigating after the vacant Millbrook Correctional Centre was ransacked over the weekend, Const. Jim Searle said yesterday. "This isn't something you hear about very often," he said.

Officers were sent Saturday to the facility 22 km south of Peterborough after security staff discovered the break-in and "extensive damage,"including splattered paint and smashed glass.

The old jail has been closed for several years and was most recently used last summer by a movie crew filming a vampire-horror movie, Searle said.

Great stupidity here. All that effort just to trash a place. Must be boring to live out that way I guess.
