Bones, vodka, bikini bottoms and turtles...

ottonabee and I drove out to the outer NE GTA over the weekend in an eight hour burst of RE (rural exploration). We had a pretty fun time but it ended on a bit of a downer note as we were caught on a property by an older husband/wife team claiming to be neighbors. More on that later...

First up is a virtually unaccessible (by vehicle) farm just south of Mosport Park in Clarington. Inside a barn was this interesting array of bones and skulls:

The Pontypool grain elevator in, wait for it - Pontypool, has seen its stealthy boarding breached, so ott and I took a gander inside:

The Pines, in Bridgenorth, seems also to have had its steathiness unstealthed recently, possibly by sk8erboiz looking for a dry and secluded place to sk8:

Heading further NE we happened upon this beautiful, though heavily stealthed, barn. What was more interesting was the odd pairing of items we noticed on the roadside (right):

A little further NE we drove by the big yellow house, a place ottonabee says has been boarded up since he was a youth. And he's old now. So it's been decades since any light has found its way into this place:

We then contemplated driving down this road but stopped short because we're scared of Bigfoot:

We then found a big red house, but it was stealthed to the max. ottonabee noticed a turtle laying on its back in the middle of the busy highway. We carefully placed the injured but still quite agile turtle by the side of a nearby creek where you can see him swimming (right):

Finally, we ventured into lovely North Kawartha. It's a lovely town. You'll want to visit sometime. It was here ottonabee and I spotted what is obviously a wreck of an old house on an obviously untended property overgrown with grass and weeds. We ventured to the dilapidated structure and began taking our pictures. We were almost finished when the grizzled whine of an old bitchy lady demanded to know what the hell we were doing on "her" property. We gave her the "we're just taking photos" routine but she wasn't having any of it. Her husband was also with her but clearly it was the wife that was making this war happen. She even cleverly parked her truck so it blocked ott's car. She took down his license plate number and name and only after we explained the whole "we're just taking pictures, not trying to steal items from the property" routine a few times did she appear to understand we were harmless photographers. Needless to say, we were somewhat unsure what would happen next - would she call the police? Well, two days later, still no cops. It was the first time I or anyone I've explored with had this level of "being caught". Previous occasions were always uneventful and easy to diffuse.

Anyways, here is the location, damn the angry witch who caught us too! Enjoy!

Here are a few more images from our trip

I believe the Lady that caught us was very upset that we might find this

Thats right folks!!!. The original and very collectible "CAR/BOAT". Although very sought after these days it didnt initially go over well when first introduced. Many found it difficult to flip when transferring from land to water or vis versa

And also located on the farm was this juicer

Unfortunately owing to its extreme size and weight this device went the way of the DODO bird and missed the juice bar craze by many decades. Timing is everything

I know were not suppose to take anything but my wife and i are redecorating the house and this skull fit in perfectly with the bathroom decor

And finally this pic. I dont condone graffiti or tagging but sometimes a message is just too important to go unnoticed

It is a big skull and i thank a friendly fellow poster for pointing out the fact some people might think i actually took it. My tongue was planted firmly in my cheek when i stated i had nabbed it for a bathroom decoration. After having battled with the property lady i dont wish to battle everyone here. However i am thinking of going back for this snowmobile

With just some minor tinkering i could have myself a spot on the racing circuit
winning mega bucks which i could use to purchase skulls with instead of pilfering them from vacant houses..aahhhh!!, a man can only dream

Well i am off to saint vincent de pauls to buy a retro ski doo suit, later folks

Nice pics, very entertaining post!

I always hate parking my car in the driveway of abandoned houses. Some of those abandoned houses have such long driveways you really don't feel like walking up. The fear of being blocked in by local hicks or something always crosses my mind, especially when you have a VERY on road vehicle like mine.

Anyways good job!

I usually park up the road a bit when I'm doing houses, and leave a note on the windshield saying something like "ran out of gas, will be back by 3:00" or something... hasn't failed me yet. I learned my lesson about parking AT the abandonment

This place aside most times we look for a safe place to park. I think we were just a little lazy that day and paid for it

The pic is of the top of an old airplane hanger. It is sitting far from any airport. It is hard to decipher from the pic but reads "Rockland Airways"

Whenever Fedge and myself went out, we always parked on or near the abandonment and never had a problem. I guess lady luck ran out. We did get questioned a couple times fedge.... Remember we used the "We are looking for Bob Gunderson" a couple times, and it worked. Remember one guy even said he might live 2 or 3 houses down.

Or how about the guy that called us out of the house saying it was his bosses house. He bought our "We wanna buy the land" story. I guess after cutting it close that many times, we couldnt avoid not getting caught for to much longer. It had to happen sometime.

Whats the worst that can happen being caught on private property without entering the building? A fine? I wouldnt worry at all about it Otto and Fedge. If the land owners do press charges, they just put you in Kingston Pen for 4 - 5 years with all the gay boyz. hehehehe
