Toronto :Church building on Shuter to be razed...

Hello all,

I was walking along Shuter today between Bond and Church and noticed an application for rezoning for the north building of St. Mikes Church (I think its St. Michael's anyways). I'm not sure if St. Mikes owns it but it seems to fit in with the architecture of the property. There's a bum sleeping outside the doorsteps, quite comfortably I might add with almost a full bed setup. I searched the forum to see if this topic had been discussed but had no luck searching with the search term "shuter"

The application says its being rezoned for some giant tower and some townhouses. I noticed some boarded up windows around door knobs probably indicating someone has tried to enter the place before. I have a strong feeling the property is vacant.

Anyways here's the satellite photos, its the building on the south side of Shuter west of church, east of bond.

A.K.A. the United Church of Residential School Abuse Lawsuit Debt, which will tell you most of what you need to know about why it's slated for redevelopment.

Its been used for filming until very recently...the building is inaccessible currently and has been for months. If it wasn't it would probably be a shooting gallery for crack whores and junkies from further up the street.

Hey guys.

I used to live at 81 shuter in a crap as romming house. The place I was at is located at the top right corner of the parking lot in the sat pic. I past by that building everyday to queen station or the eaton centre for a crappy year. The area is rife with junkies and homeless. Being my self a film grad I always ask the grips whats going on. Last time I saw film trucks outside the grips said that it was a Disney Basketball movie. They were using the inside of the building as a court. It has old wood flooring and I guess they were there for about 1 week. Another time it was used for some music video. They were moving in and out alot of heavy lighting kits. Including some really big Arri lights I think 30 k's mounted on some sky highs. Anyways just though Id weigh in on it.
