| | | Posted by Particle Man I drop in every time I'm in Toronto for some shots. The thing I love about the brickworks is that it's so very relaxed. You can just walk around as lazy as you want, taking your time lining up the perfect picture without worrying who will see you.
|
I've actually considered camping in there because of this.

| | | I used to get drunk there, before I was legal and could get drunk wherever I pleased. It was a pretty chill place, but yeah, the threat of squatters was always a little scary. I know I wouldn't react very nicely if a bunch of drunk teenagers walked into my house...

| | | There is one squatter, he is in a nice secluded area with actually a pretty nice view of the skyline. He has set up a pretty smart way of getting in and out. If you go onto the highest roof of the brickworks and look south, you'll be able to see him pacing back and fourth in his dwelling to the East.

He doesn't appear to be there anymore. As for the kids mentioned in previous post fucking around in there, you wouldn't be worried about kids from Rosedale would you? I ran into 3 kids once smoking a splif in there checking out the graf and text messaging on their blackberries.

Well he is usually there, i was there Sept 29, www.abandoned-toronto.tk I took some pics that day but didn't feel like taking one of him, but he was definitely there. I guess he takes some strolls sometimes. Not at all, I'm probably around their age anyways, fucking hate them (sorry if your reading this and you are one). So annoying with their blackberries.

Here's a lockpick. It might be handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you. |

| | | Hrm... Not so sure about a certification of an IOU. I suppose if the little fellow went to school for a few years, managed to pass AND get accepted into med school, he just might be able to gain a specialization in cosmetic surgery. Would he be certified then? Either way, a certified IOU is still in the coming.

| | | Posted by cute_boy The other day i was taking some photos at the brickworks and i ran into a young lady doing her thesis on the building. Anyways we got talking about how its good they dont just tear this place down and she told me what she had found out was the future of the building. I told her I had heard it was to become a restaurant and she told me this was true as well, the roof would be ripped off the main part and they would have a garden between the kilns and in the winter it would be a skating rink, how cool is that! Anyways i was wondering if people knew the fates of any other buildings, i know there was a thread about canada malting turning into some music hall of fame. Cute

What's the general take on tagging at the Brickworks? Is that kosher with the UER community, frowned upon, or "to each their own"?

| | | Unless you own the property, ALL tagging is considered vandalizing, and as such, illegal. Plus, tagging property that is not your own is for asshats. If you own the property (do you own the Brickworks?), then go for it, tag away!

| | | I really don't quite grasp the tagger's need to leave his mark on beautiful architecture. For god's sake! Just leave it alone! It is already falling to disrepair, why on earth would you want to make it any worse! This is precisely why a large majority of pristine locations are not freely revealed. UEers prefer to go into a building and see it for what it was, not for what it has been painted. Don't misinterpret me, I do appreciate the true graffiti artists, but stick to bridges and highway overpasses. You'll get more exposure that way anyways. Hell, if you want to, graffiti the outside of your house! I am sure your neighbours will love the new paint job! There is a reason that I don't leave anything but footprints. I would like to have an accurate memory of a glorious building and what it once was. There is no reason to deface such a thing. I think people need to get it into their thick skulls that the world is NOT their canvas. Consider taking up a non-destructive hobby, or even better, stick to active police stations, active government buildings, and active military installations. Tag those! I assure you, it will be far more thrilling. Seriously dude. Go to Graffiti.com or something. This is a site for Urban Explorers / Infiltrators. Not Urban Vandals, Urban Thieves, Urban Arsonists, or Urban Asshats. I sure hope you run into an unarmed hobo and he bites you or something. Okay. I am done. Enough with the rant.

| | | I honestly think that most of the paint in there isn't too bad. There's some nice looking stuff in there, most of the people that go in there are serious about their work. The place is a giant canvas. Your typical gangsta wannabe taggers don't really hit up the brickworks, they're more interested in hitting up somewhere it's going to be seen.. like a mail box on Yonge St.
