| | | Abandoned Water Plant < on 10/18/2006 3:48 AM >
| | | I just started reading this site last night and it is awesome! I was worried that I wouldn't find much in the way of Abandoned buildings in my small town area but the more I think the more I find. In fact, For my first UE, There is an old water plant in my town. It's way out of the path of normal traffic in our town, but I can easily bike to it. There is a sign on it that says no trespassing and a seperate sign stating that vandalism is a felony on this building yada yada yada. I'm not quite sure if it's a water station or not, and it's kind of close to our dam(which people consider a security risk since 911). Should I go for it? also in my town, was a power plant that was built by duke energy and never used. Just sits there, although I hear there are plans for an opening soon, so i really don't want to risk a power plant near our chemical plants in such times as these with people really fearful about terrorism.

| | | Ok, thanks, I was planning on bringing a camera and tripod too, just to look more like a curious kid(which I am ) than a crazed terrorist trying to blow up our chemical plants and dam. Our town is realitivly small, and as long as their not state cops, I probably know them anyway. One was my boy scout master and others are substitute teachers. | | | I just went to the water plant. I brought two LED flashlights, some water, and my crappy cell phone camera(i'll post the pics later in the photo section). I learned two things, 1: really check out the place first, when I scouted it before it was about an hour after I did today, today was so busy, and many city vehicles drove by. 2:Bring Bug Spray, this place was in a swamp and i'm eaten alive. I didn't go inside, as both doors where heavily locked and chained and all windows boarded tightly, I think theres a pretty easy way from the roof, but with all the traffic driving by, I didn't want to risk being seen but will try again later. Is there anything I could have brought with me or done differently to make the trip more succesful and fun. Thanks for all your help!

| | | Hmm...I was worried about that. They are horrible quality, all I had was my cell phone camera, 1.3 megapixels. My g/f was supposed to bring me a much better one, but forgot. I'm not a good photographer at all so basic tips for more interesting pictures would be helpful, thanks!
1. Outside of the building
2. Well out back with numerous old-style beer bottles thrown in
3. low quality shot from far away, tree is in the way
4. Big hole with some pipes out to the back
5.inside a window, check out the bright red light, something is still going on in there.
6.this is how I plan to get up next time, the concrete walkway below the handrail is right with in climbing range and I'm a monkey.
5.Broken window panes...this is to the left and down from the last picture.

| | | Not bad at all considering it was a cell phone, i've taken worse with a Canon EOS D30, looks pretty secluded so you wouldn't have to worry as much about being caught. Hmm some tips, not too many to list now because you've only been taking them outside but try different angles, angles that would seem weird. Sometimes just straight to the point pictures get boring. Something like this

| | | Thanks, i took them all from one side, so you can't see the busy road behind me. Maybe I'm just a pansy, yea thats prolly it.

| | | Exactly, I took that one as I was leaving, as an afterthought. I don't wanna wait until night, but I think I hit it at rush hour today, if I would've waited an hour or so I would've been much better off.

| | | Well thats not that bad, don't be to paranoid, people usually have better things to do to try to rat some guy out. It looks like only one wall of that building is facing the road so you could try to get in from the back or the sides of the building. Part of the excitement of UEing is taking the risk of getting caught.
