| | | ...What's with all the hostility? I am sorry I had no idea these posts would cause such a stir, lets all try and be open minded and try and see it from everyone's point of view. Honestly, we are all UER's here, and that should be enough. Yes we all have different tactics and strategies for entering off limits places, but that's part of what makes us individuals, the choices we make. There is no need for arguing and bickering when nothing but frustration is going to come from it. The liklihood that someone online is going to persuade someone else online, who already is breaking the law in the first place, is most likely not going to listen to someone's advice unless they are asking for it. I say this taking both sides into consideration. Those of you who don't lockpick because you find it morally wrong, will most likely not change due to what someone else said, and those of you who do lockpick for whatever reason that may be will most likely also not change. And both just for the same reason you don't listen to anyone when exploring! You and I alike are all Urban Explorers and there should be no need to fight between us.

| | | Well this thread was sort of dead, which just proves the point that Lockpicking is not a favorite topic amongst the majority of forum users, I am not saying that it's against the rules to discuss it, but I just think that you'd be more likely to get someone to answer your question elsewhere. Everyone here has already shown their disinterest in the discussion of this subject, so just let this one die, that way we get no more flame wars. I hope you do eventually find what you are looking for, and wish you the best of luck in your search. Sorry noone could help you here. Asylunt

| | | Posted by Jester Well, considering that comparing what security measures I've had to face with what lots of explorers all over that I know have faced, it doesn't seem that it's *lax* here at all. If anything, we seem to have more security (24hr guards, alarms in abandonments, K-9 units at Woodlands). Especially considering the number of emails I've recieved from other explorers around here, telling me about how they got caught at places I've explored (and continue to explore still).

Interesting. People seem to think I was trying to accuse you of being overly paranoid, but I wasn't. My post was just a case of trying to clear up cultural misinformation I've gotten from the media and other Americans. Down here we have an impression of Canada as a place where bikes are left unlocked in the middle of Toronto and one can wander around pretty much wherever one pleases with much less hassle than here.

Posted by lago1 Is it possible your culture has spoiled you? If Canada is as lax about locks as Michael Moore's "Bowling for Columbine" suggests, then trespass may be a lot easier. Here in Chicago, while there are plenty of places that aren't locked at all, the vast majority of interesting sites are on serious lockdown. It's a big city, paranoid, terrorism-shook, American thing. Lockpicking, for some people, is an easier solution than grappling hooks or crawling through buildings' sewer mains.

You and I must be in different realities, because I've found many great places to explore with minimal security. You're obvious not looking in the right places. Why do you never post anything of relevance except, it seems, to argue about something?

I have also found many great places to explore without lockpicks. However, I can tell you of at least one building I know of that would be flat out IMPOSSIBLE to infiltrate with a grappling hook and honestly, if I have to soak myself in sewerage instead of picking a lock, then I care about UE too much. And this building, you would probably ejaculate if you saw it, because everybody who has visited has been absolutely floored that such a site exists untouched in Chicago. But I'd rather not share at the moment, but when I've seen all I want to see, I'll let you in on it and you can decide how obvious it is that I'm not looking in the right places. Meanwhile, you can scour the archives for my nonargumentative posts. I assure you there are many. And by the way, yes, New Lenox and Chicago are surely, as you put it, "different realities." -Mr. Argue
