Peterborough area?

Anyone in the ptbo area, or know if anything interesting to check out in the area? Most of my experience is rural exploration... I've got a few old farmhouses that I'd like to investigate further. Found one that looked rather boarded up on sunday night, but hadn't come prepared to go in.

Where about is this house? I know of one house along Highways 28, an old yellow house. Two stories, possibly an attic as well. Been boarded up about 30 years. Have you tryed that house? It's a little north of Peterborough though. I'v hear a church on 28 too? Is this true? I only go up there for a little bit each summer, I stay in Burleigh Falls. I'v only seen the odd house up there, not much else. Havent checked the Pete though.. Warsaw Road has a huose too

Nope... the one I found was well off the beaten path... 20 minutes north of Hwy 7 near Norwood, down a backroad, far away from prying eyes. Biggest problem is I think the last bit of road is actually a driveway, not a public road... and even if it is public, it's so un-travelled that it's kind of obvious when one side of the road is this boarded up house, and the other side is the driveway to another property... anyone coming in is going to question why you're car is parked there.

Ya, I'm lazy... don't feel like walking the 4km in from the main gravel road.

Haven't seen any of the places on 28... have a better idea of location?

Is this the yellow house mike?

This house had been boarded up since i was a young lad and i am getting up in years now.

I am sure there are many places yet to be explored in and around Peterborough county.

Do you have any pics of the place near Norwood Quattro?

Fedge and myself found this place at the end of a dead end gravel road. The road also had a driveway to the right of the house and after we took some pics the owners showed up from down that driveway. We just said that we had followed this road not realizing it was a dead end.If this is the place quattro ,it is locked up very tight

We didn't see anything really obvious. It looks like the location is far enough from anywhere that vandals really haven't exploited it yet, so therefore, it's boarded up tighter than... well, something that's really tight.

Because the yellow house has sat in that state for so long i would not tempt fate by entering it. I am sure the floors are rotted by now and i don't miss many meals if you know what i am saying

Yeah, thats very true. The state it looks likes it in, and the 30 years of abandoned houseness...you could probably find a way in, but step on a nail and that whole house is coming down on you...I've just always been curious to what it looks like inside. The decor and stuff...

I remember as a kid my uncle had told me it was full of antiques. I dont remember why he told me that or if he said anything else about the house.
My uncle was a little odd then and did become mentally ill in his later years so i would not put much faith in his words. But it is interesting that thirty years and a hundred miles separation from that situation i would read about that very house on this web site. Maybe the house is beckoning us to enter it

It is located at the top of Lakefield where highway 29 and 28 merge.

The place was once a cheese factory and then the son took over the business and made it into a flea market for a few years.By the looks of things it has gone thru many other incarnations as well. I cannot account for its situation over the last twenty years since i was last in it as a flea market. The place was vacant and wide open when i visited it last summer. Because of the location where the two highways meet you are very exposed when on the property and the gas station across the way has a good view.
I would like to know if anyone has checked it out lately and if it is still empty.

Pics would be nice as well

Thanks for all that. I might check it out this summer. I think I know exactly what your talking about. As for the yellow house, as dangerous as it will be, I think she's calling for an exploration. Just look at it! It's an old, very old, creepy odd yellow house in the middle of nowhere kinda...

That looks about right... right down to the metal roof sheeting used on the one door. I didn't hang around long when I was there... same as your situation, little hard to explain why you're there, and the other driveway is obviously active.

Sorry...that Lakefield bypass house has become toast. Not sure when it burned down, think I noticed it was gone sometime mid-April. Think the barns were still there (if caved in) last time I flew past. If anyone's planning to look at the barns, be aware that the side road across the highway is a popular hiding spot for radar traps.

The yellow Burleigh Falls place used to have nice big verandahs. Also remember a nicely done "Premises inspected daily by owner" sign nailed to the 2nd storey, where the plywood & "DANGER" is now. Couldn't tell you how long the front door has been labelled "UNSOUND BUILDING."

In ~1998, I met someone who lived on that sideroad in behind the house. Asked them if they knew what the story was behind it, and if anyone ever saw humans near it. They said that the owners live down toward Toronto somewhere, and were still taking an interest in the property at that point. The neighbors would see them appear every 2-3 weeks to check the place over and/or bring stuff up to store there. Local lore had it that all the furniture/etc was left in the house when it was boarded up.

I was in Lakefield last night, and managed to grab a couple shots of otonabee's highway 28/29 junction flea market. Small inset maps in each photo have arrows to indicate direction camera was pointing. Newbie with a point and shoot after sundown - please be gentle.
