| | The Ghost of A.E. LePage < on 8/5/2007 4:56 AM >
| | | I was in a drain in North York today (Roman Numerals, discovered last year by Siologen), when I came upon this incredible impression in an access chamber.
A.E. LePage was the company that ultimately merged with Royal Trust's real estate division in 1984 to become the Royal LePage juggernaut we all know today. It's namesake was apparently the first full-time real estate agent in Canada, founding the company in 1913. This drain, which straddles Finch Avenue, was laid between 1967-1970. The construction crew may have scavenged this sign from nearby farmland that was slated to become the industrial subdivisions and tank farms that now dominate the area, or it may have simply been part of a consignment of scrap boards that they brought to the site. Either way, it ended up as the centrepiece of the wood forms into which the concrete walls of this room were poured. It's also possible that this was a patch made after the room was laid --- half a kilometer further upstream, a nearly identical room has a wooden patch in this same location. For those who are having trouble making out the text of the sign, it reads: A.E. LePage Limited Realtor 481-4333 The impression is about five feet wide and two feet tall. | | | Facinating find. Nice work.
You can always tell when you're watching Canadian television - the actors in the show are the same ones doing the commercials. |
